TRYING TO GET THE MISSUS INTO RM

Hey guys, the missus recently complained that she's run out of good RPGs to play. I offered to make her one, but then I had the thought that actually, RPG Maker would probably be right up her street. I can teach her easy enough, but the first step into getting her into the hobby is to show her some games made preferably in 2k3 to show her the potential of what she, or we, could actually make.

I admit my finger is far from the pulse of the community these days and I rarely show my face. Anyone got some recommendations of some good, complete, 2k3 RPGs?

*obligatory Hero's Realm recommendation

I'd take a look at the list of featured games for some good ideas, or even just search the database for games with high star ratings. I'm sure you could find some great examples that way.

And that's how you accidentally double-post, folks.

Why limit it to 2k3? It's easier to make something good with XP or VX.

My mind is full of fuck.

Unless you wanted to avoid all the scripting for most of the part, and make something simple.
Limiting it to 2k3 because it's what I know and I find it to be the most versatile, personally, plus I like the side view battle system and low resolution. I think it best emulates SNES era RPGs and yeah, not a fan of RGSS or 32x32 tile size.

Also, hell yes Heros Realm! I remember really enjoying what I played of it
Rise to the Third Power
Kinetic Cipher
Leo & Leah
Alter A.I.L.A. Genesis
Paradise Blue
Balmung Cycle

some of them aren't complete... but they are still good examples.

I actually disagree with this comment. It's equally hard to make something good, even if VX gives you more tools.

Because SHOCKINGLY no one has yet (that I can see), I recommend that she play The Way, A Blurred Line, and Three The Hard Way.
Not sure about TTHW I love that game but I don't think a newcomer would see it as a good example, it's really a game you play with an "old times sake" mentality.

Eh....the first couple hours are not great, but it really really picks up over time. Something I think you could say about a lot of commercial JRPGs too.

Aren't ABL and The Way RM2000 games?
For the perspective of a total newbie, try recommending Ara Fell : Legend of Dirisetsu Hollow. It was one of the first RM games I played and it left a big impression on me.
Very attractive, fun, and the system isn't so overly complicated that someone would be left dumbfounded if trying to imitate it.

Considering that she is ostensibly a girl, Ara Fell would be a pretty good choice. It seems to me to have a lot of appeal to that general quasi-demographic. And it's not a bad looking game overall.
Oh yeah! Ara Fell would be perfect! Some great suggestions so far, I shall hafta go on a download spree
Kinetic Cipher (Again), the best RM2K3 game ever.
*worst

*most disgusting system graphics
OK, so far we have
Ara Fell
Hero's Realm
Kinetic Cipher
Anything made by Max McGee in ever of ever (Iron Gaia, Backstage etc)
The Befuddle Quests (because I really enjoy them and she loves puzzles)
Legacies of Dondoran
Ocean's games (Paradise Blue, Ever Blue etc)

This should keep her busy for a little while
