LOOKING FOR A RPG

How about Valkyrie Profile (PSX)? The only real story-heavy segments are the intro sequence and the perfect (A) ending scene. Other than that, it fits moooooost of the criteria.

Only thing I can think on at the moment (mostly because I'm playing through it, lol).

Hmm maybe I'm mistaken, but didn't Persona 2 have that thing when you had to give orders before-hand, and then just watch everybody execute them instead of traditional turn based?
that's literally exactly what turn-based combat is

it just removes the middle-man of performing the same action over and over by making you not have to pick the option repeatedly like in most rpgs

also you can set an option where it will go back to the order menu after every round of combat (i.e. after all of your character perform their actions) if you really want that turn-based feel

Hmm, how's the combat in that game? Is it fun? From what I read it is turned based, and for spells and special moves there is a CT bar instead of traditional SP/mana, which recharges with time.. got that right? Looks interesting, adding it to my "To try list", thanks!

I agree and disagree at the same time, depends on how you look at it, but take into account those criteria I wrote, and you can't recommend a game like Fifa or Minesweeper :D

Wario's-a number one!

X-com Ufo Defense. Try that one out.

It's pretty much the perfect RPG.

I find it fun, though others may disagree. But then again that can be said about near everything, can't it? Lol. Basically, speaking only of the battle mechanics, you assign a character (of which there are a lot of) to the Triangle, Square, Circle, and "X" buttons in battle. Pressing one of these buttons initiates the corresponding character's attack, all of which are different. The goal is to chain their attacks together to form combos that will relinquish crystals, treasures, and orbs from enemies that will lower the CT bar's wait time. This is essential for your mages, because after the initial casting of a spell they'll be waiting a long time to make a proper move again if you don't acquire enough orbs.

Let's say this: it's fun in the way the Star Ocean, Tales of-, etc. games are, which is to say semi button-mashy without THAT much thought depending on what kind of a player you are.

There are 3 endings however (each with its own final boss... but you don't want to get the "C" ending, lol) and roughly 15-20 characters to obtain.

I'd just recommend looking at a few videos first, just to see how it plays.

Already checked some videos, and also read a review at RPGFan Reviews, where it got 91% overall, and I am already playing it, thanks again for the suggestion :D
It might get a little troublesome getting used to keyboard controls for the button mashing though :D Would be great if I could play it on my PS3, which I can't, because my monitor doesnt support the video output from PS1 games (which I found out after buying FF 7,8 and Grandia from the PS store, dammit)

EDIT: Oh my GAWD the voice acting, argh..... Will try to get over it, but man, that's horrible :D
the voice acting is charmingly bad

wait until you get grey in your party, he's worth using just to hear his hilarious battle cry every time he uses icicle disaster

oh and uh, what difficulty are you playing on?
Well, I was playing on normal difficulty, was liking the battles, the battle system, and the graphics are charming, but for some reason, the display sometimes freezes during battle indefinitely until I attack or it get's unstuck itself, I can hear the game, can hear when I move through the item menu, but the display is stuck.

And since it's happening a lot, it kinda breaks the game for me, which is a shame, looked like fun... but seriously, the VA is BAAAD. Anyways, I tried it in PSX 1.13, and also in 1.7 after reading that it should run flawlessly there, but still no luck. I might try ePSXe, but I hate setting that up and getting all the plugins, and selecting the right ones. Besides, PSX emulates the PS1 faithfully, and everything ran without any problems so far, so it's either some bad rom (doubt that) or my PC is trying to piss me off again :/

EDIT: And now Google.com is down, so I cant search for ePSXe or some info about the game running on that.... arrrgh who is doing this to me

VP is my favorite RPG for the PSX, but its emulation on ePSXe sucks big time. The game freezes very often when there is voiced dialogue, the only remedy I found was to change the sound plugin to ePSXe SPU core and pray it doesn't freeze. Considering there are some looong and unskippable custcenes with tons of voiced dialogue in them... RAGE.

Oh, and don't play on Normal, play on Hard. I'm pretty sure it's not any more difficult apart from the new recruits all starting at level 1, but you have the EXP Orb to take care of that. Hard gives you additional dungeons and additional (powerful) loot, plus the Flame Jewels needed in the optional dungeon. Oh, and some extra characters.

with what version? a cursory glance of a few forums suggests that it works fine

ALL OF THEM. I played this game several times and it freezed frequently. I tried different versions of ePSXe on three different PCs over the years. It always froze randomly during the recruitment sequences; some cutscenes were more prone to freezing, some less.
Oh yeah, I've had those problems happen to me on multiple occasions as well. But with a bit of fooling around, I've managed to avoid a majority of them from re-occurring. The freezing still happens, but that's only minor, as it only happens every now-and-then. The out-of-sync voices and what-not were what got to me, but I played around with my Plugins and options and managed to fix most of it (and ePSXe has several options for VP and other games to fix their various bugs).

And I started on Normal difficulty. Sadly, I only managed to get the "B" ending (I wanted to get the "A" ending on my first go...! Since I'm very unlikely to replay games =( )

And I actually really like Lenneth's voice. Although... she may very well be the only voice I actually like in the entire game. Lol.

Thanks again for that link, IT WORKS! No display freezes during battle anymore, so I can finally play. There were some places where the game slows down during exploration, but nothing gamebreaking. Playing on Hard.

Yeah Lenneth's(and Freya's) voice are somewhat well done and don't make me want to hit my head against a wall (Frei's voice for example, OH MY GOD, luckily it seems I won't hear her too much). Though I would still like an option to turn OFF the voices, and just read the dialogue.
