PS3 VS 360

How is this debate over? At the start, the 360 had the better library and price but in the last year or two the PS3 started pulling ahead in the exclusives department. I think if you had neither console, today the choice is the PS3. Access to exclusives like Uncharted and God of War edges out Gears/Halo, and you are also getting a BluRay Disc player, which has firmly established itself as the new media format (this was stiol uncertain at the PS3's release). 360 could wrench it bsck because the Kinect has more potential than the Move, but it all deoends on how it is tapped. This debate is not settled and will continue to evolve until the next generation of hardware is out.

While it is silly to declare yourself s "PS3 person," you can definitely compare the devices on their merits.

gonna need a first gen ps3 for that

Any-gen PS3 can play PS1 games. First gen had all the hardware to play PS2 games, second gen emulated the emotion engine which caused some issues, later PS3s didn't have any PS2 hardware so you couldn't play PS2 games on those at all

wait wait wait, it can play PS1 but not PS2? that's bizarre! (if I understood that correctly)
Correct. They never removed the PS1 hardware (or emulator, I'm not sure how it does it). The PS2 on the other hand was taken out.

But then, since I have played the PS1 games in the past decade... Does it work on both PS1 models? After wondering why one of my games failed to work in the PS1 is that I had the original PlayStation console (with custom firmware installed in it, but I was too young to comprehend that) that reads the usual PS discs with a shiny surface. But one day, I purchased a game, but realized that its readable surface is black. That actually confused me as I have made attempts to make it read... Despite my then age, I was a competent player that reaches the amateur/casual skill tier (Got through Armored Core: Master of Arena story missions, finished games that are considered too easy by experienced ones, etc.), but not this.

Several years later, I received a PSOne and a few games. I noticed that they all have the black surface, and the console is a bit... roundish and smaller. That's when I found out. Technology apparently got the upper hand on me with a later-generation console.

In short, could the PS3 read both generations of the first PS?
Yes. The fundamental hardware never changed besides die shrinks and adding additional hardware that wouldn't have an adverse effect on playing PS1 games. I don't know if PS1 playback on the PS3 is perfect (see the FFAnthology on the PS2 for rare and minor issues with PS1 playback on the PS2). If a game doesn't work it's more likely due to issues with reading the disk (damaged read surface or shitty laser, take your pick!) than issues with playing that particular game.

I see... It's similar to playing Xbox games on a 360. There's bugs on some games I played in (made playing some split-screen multiplayer games difficult to do). Too bad I left behind my games in the past. Then again... most or all my games are pirated ones at that time, so I... uh... right... probably not safe to do.
I am a Wii60 as well as F-G. I could have gotten a PS3 instead of a 360 but only for like... 2 games i want lol. Nowadays developers just cannot afford to stick to one platform, they need to get as many consumers as possible, Sony bribes aren't really enough I guess. It just comes down to "GEARS OF WRA OR UNCHARTED?????"
I'm a PS360WiiDS guy myself. I love all 3 consoles (and my DS), though the one I play the most is my 360.
I play RPG Maker the most, tbh.

After that, the DS (because I can play that while I poop)
I'm surprised no one responded snarkily with PC.

I thought this petty argument died out a few years back.
It did. When everyone agreed that the PC was the best platform. (I was going to put PC in all caps for effect, but then realized that it is always in caps. That's how awesome it is)

PC GAMING OH YEAAAHH. Where else can you play Dwarf Fortress anyway? (I play PC for its exclusives I suppose)
I've been exposed.

Oh, and PC>* ;)
I own all three. Usually playing the Wii the most, then 360. I rarely ever touch my PS3, probably going to bust it out again whenever I get around to buying inFamous 2 though.
*raises a sword with a broken blade* A player of 3 consoles in here as well... But now it's two, since my probably first-gen Wii (the white one) died on me... probably the power supply gave out. Then again, I played the Game Boy systems, the GameCube, and Xbox in the past, and currently using the Nintendo DS and DSi, PSP, PS3 (older-gen, definitely not first-gen), and 360 (first/older-gen, has died on me and warranty-serviced twice).

But then, the PS3 and 360 are competing. I go for the PS3 for its free network service, download of PS1 classics, PSP connection, and Blu-ray capability. The 360 carries the more interesting series such as Halo and Mass Effect, the partial backward compatibility with it's predecessor (unlike the more recent generations of PS3), and greater emphasis on the analog stick on the controller layout.

I assure you I'm no where NEAR as STUPID as one might think.

I like every console.
But the PS3 and 360 subject, well, there is no 'better' console. It is just about how well it handles to you, personally. The Xbox is for more, hardcore gaming, so to speak, while the PS3 is more user-friendly and..dare I say, interactive via the functionality of it? For example, it is just a slimmed down computer. Thus it would mean you could save space if you wanted to use it for the Internet access.

The Pro for that would be the Free Internet.
But Xbox uses their money gained from their Live subscriptions, to work more on the servers, rather than what Sony does. Since they don't have people paying for their Online game-play or Internet access; that is less money coming in, to work on their systems and servers with.

i love completely subjective "better" arguements

your opinion is wrong, no yours is

If you had a laptop, you could play RM games while you poop, too.

...just sayin'
laptops are too bulky and warm for a 3-5 mins jaunt to the loo.
