I think there's a Hello Kitty MMO too.
Who are these people making up such a large fanbase?
As a player of stupid fighting games, I can confirm that I will be playing this.

In 5 or so years, were probably gunna get 'Super Kitty Fighter II Part 3, arcade edition Extreme 2'.

Note: This is why they canceled MML3.
Don't worry, if it turns out decent it'll never get translated anyway. :|

What about Resident Evil: Code Kitty? or {insert video game title pun here}
It's merchandise. Not a game. So no worries on that.
...yet.

I dunno! Punching Hello Kitty in the face could be fun!

I don't know. I mean figures are one thing, but it doesn't seem likely that Sanrio would okay putting Hello Kitty in an actual fighting game. Their fanbase probably wouldn't go for it. Same goes for the Street Fighter fanbase. And while Capcom has been screwing fans over, I can't see them putting the money and work into a game that they would have no reason to believe anyone would buy. Both franchises are popular, but for totally different reasons and with totally different people. A good mix for toys(Hello Kitty is always looking for new costumes) but not so much for a game.

Square and Final Fantasy XIII-2
FFXIII was good and FFX-2 was good so I am buying this when it comes out.

It's cool to hate on Square.

Honestly, while I don't think the FF series measures up anymore, personally, Square still makes money on it. All it really takes for them anymore is a few teenage girls looking for new, effeminate, misunderstood/depressed guys to throw into random yaoi pairings and they've got themselves a game they can sell.

I still enjoy some Square games. The Dragon Quest series is still good, and I'd like to try Front Mission Evolved. But for the most part, they're catering to fangirls now, and it still makes them money.

It's not that strange to see super chibi icon-style characters pit against realistic-type characters.
The difference being that Ice Climbers and Kirby had to deal with monsters. Hello Kitty was never meant to fight. Just be cute and best friends with everyone. Just another reason I don't see Sanrio letting a game happen.

Not to mention, Smash Bros still targets the same age group as the games the characters are from aside from Solid Snake who is really more of a throwback to the fact that the original Metal Gear was on NES. And that pleases the older fans who have been playing since the 80's. There's also the point that most games made by Nintendo sort of share a fanbase. It's easy to find a game library that contains Zelda, Mario, and Donkey Kong all at once.

So really, it is quite a bit different from if Capcom and Sanrio decided to make a crossover game. Like I said. Costumed figures are one thing. A full on game would be quite another. And it's not very likely.
