WOULD THIS WORK ON RM ?

To be honest I REALLY think you should focus on small games and learn the engine first. Try the ambitiousness later when you are able to understand how to event/program the stuff you want imo.

Another question is, what maker is this? Because these are certainly possible. I remember Rpgmaker XP already has a script that can make you customize character appearance etc. And Modern_Algebra made one for RMVX as well. So that should make things a lot easier for you--if you really want to do this and be prepared
Yep small games. 1 town, 1 dungeon. 1 quest. Start small. Or even do 1 town with quests and 9 dungeons. It worked well for Zelda.
So... since I have a head start on this. Would anyone like to help with a RPG VX version that uses the Mack tileset?
Make an Ultima 4 knock off! It's a fantastic game with a huge world ready to explore and a bunch of small quests (be a good dude, find the runes, learn the mantras, get the stones, meditate, get that dumb fucking key, descend into the abyss, show you know your virtues, and probably one other that I missed) that make up the overall one (become the Avatar). There's lots of ways to make it easier to make in a RPG Maker. Make the dungeons and combat regular JRPG fare. NPCs say one thing. Cut out that fucking key quest. Don't go and try to make Morrowind, you can make a free roaming exploration nonlinear game as long as it is manageable in scope and planned out ahead of time.
Go for it, but try to work within the engine. My problem with making games of this type is that I always write up a whole bunch of ideas and details first, without giving any thought to how I'd execute them properly. In an early Elder Scrolls inspired game of mine, I allowed the player to select player sprites from four races with three subtypes. Then I allowed them to have equipment that changed their appearance. Instead of actually DOING THE SPRITING to make all the variations, I thought I could just tack a "display over hero" event on top with the different clothing sets and synch it up with events.

It can be done, but then you have to take into consideration that if you want something (like an awning, a tree, whatever) to display over the player's character (and their clothes), you almost have to use pictures. There is a big difference between just being able to do something, and being able to do it well.

The point is, and it is something I'm trying to keep in mind for the next game I attempt, always keep an eye on what you are actually able to do with what you are working with. You might want to do as some others suggested, start with a couple of smaller projects so that you can hone your skills but still get that sense of accomplishment, then once you've got the rm chops to make your opus, go for it.
I've been mapping for the sake of mapping, so I'm getting a little big world going that I'm thinking about just passing it around from person to person so they can add more maps or add quests. Its an unpopulated world.
