CloseI've been curious for a while lately and haven't looked it up myself. But is there a new RPGmaker on the horizon, beyond XP and VX that is going to come out anytime soon?

No idea. There has been a japan only RPG Maker DS and "Indie Game Maker" (which sucks) made after VX. But that's about it.

IG Maker wasn't Japan only, they just did a really crappy job with the release (64-bit incompatibility, HUGE rtp/download, etc), and from what I understand it is a steeper learning curve than the other makers.
One thing I hope they bring from IG maker to their next RPGMaker is the ability to have different size chipsets.

If those leaks about the Playstation Vita's games are true, "RPG Maker Vita" may be the next one.Links would be nice, first time hearing about that.
Kinda leads me to think EB may have walked away from PC-based RMs if that's the case, though. I guess they got tired of subpar reception with RMVX and (especially) IGM. =x
Console versions properly make more money, PC versions properly are just more sandboxy, seeing as the pc rpg makers get translated and downloaded on the net easily.

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

If you can distribute your games over PSN to people who don't have RPG Maker, like if the indie games section in the PS3's interface has a subsection for RPG Maker games that people have uploaded, I can see console versions becoming something that people might actually want to buy. Otherwise, fuck that. No one is going to buy game creation software if they can't distribute their games.

Okay, I know VX gives you the option of spreading your games and selling them given that the resources you use are freeware/etc. Does XP do the same thing? Are you allowed to profit from games made with the program provided all requirements are met for legality reasons?

Yes. RM2k3 is also the same assuming you bought the japanese version (the only legal version). But Entertain never seemed to care even if someone obviously didn't buy a license or used obvious rips. Maybe there are some exceptions where Enterbrain did intervene, but who knows. Anyway 1. Buy a copy of RPG Maker, 2. make sure your resources are 100% original or with permission (RTP is fine) and you're clear to sell your game (and lose your dignity if you sell it at amaranth).

awesome, thanks. Just what I needed to know. After I finish Amulet of Fate (which won't be sold, since it uses various graphics not mine), I'll probably focus on a farming/runefactory sim like game that will be fun to play. Just something I'm looking forward to creating on the horizon. Guess I should start looking for good XP resource sites that are 100% free. Would be nice to have free graphics that depict a wide variety of growing crops, etc.
People bash 2k3 for being like, almost 9 years old now but VX is almost 5 years old :|, XP is will be 7 years old in 2012. It does feel about time they released another PC engine.
