I hope the pc version has a keygen, or someone tries to make a free version! I DON'T WANT TO MAKE MY PARENTS PAY FOR MY GAME CREATION PURPOSES! And another thing...I hope the resolution works for my Windows 7 computer, because it seems my resolution is too low for vx/xp!How you may ask? I don't know...but I really want to try out ace!
User was warned for this post
I will not be excited about VX Ace unless they address the tileset limit.

EDIT: Pyrodoom, a lot of the members of this forum are adults with full time jobs and their own cards. Regardless of age or motive, it is generally accepted as taboo on this forum to pirate any engine which is legally available in English and therefore very foolish to state any intention to do so.

*shifty eyes* There are places for that pyrodoom... *shifty eyes* Meet with joe behind the local katt place, he will... *cough* help you with your piracy needs. *shifty eyes* But you did not hear that from me.

VX Ace... Sounds like a really bad label for it though. And I am NOT looking forwards to this facemaker function, my favorite part is drawing the faces of my pcs.

I suspect that the character maker is exactly the same as what the famitsu site does for free. The face maker sounds semi-useful, unless that's a rip-off of the old Facemaker. Everything else I could care less about.

Not going to lie though, I'd like to see chipset options like the previous makers had.

It seems like Ace is getting a lot of negativity in the English community before it even came out. In fact, it reminds me of the time VX came out and everybody hated it. This is almost no different. VX was disliked at first because it was lower resolution, had tileset limitations, and the database was extremely lacking compared to XP. Look at where VX is now. Though nothing changed about its core program, a plethora of scripts changed the way we view and use VX. So before people say that Ace will just be junk wrapped in beautiful wrapping paper, give it some time so that people can explore it, create for it, and help Ace grow into what XP and VX grew into.
From the listed features... I'm not yet impressed.

Everyone still complains about these things and we're hoping Ace fixes them but you have to look at Emptybrains track record here. Since 2k3 they haven't made an RPG Maker where they didn't also remove stuff from it, and Indie game maker was even worse and that makes people justifiably worried. If it's been nothing but improvements (or just very minor drawbacks) then we'd only be looking forward to it rather than skeptical.

I mean, I STILL prefer using 2k3 to VX and I'm really only using VX because of the legality issues (because it was brought over here). Plus, they never said any useful features in it so far. If they were like "We heard your concerns and decide to bring back a more powerful mapping system" (they still might, which we hope) as the main feature, I think people would be a lot more enthusiastic than naming their first features stuff that no one really cares about except for RGSS3 (which will for non scripters just inconvenience them instead for a little while).

To pick this apart:

Resolution: In-game resolution is dictated by the scripts and is easily changed. Consequently, this is a moot point. I will say that adding fugly black borders to instantly make a game 640x480 is nothing but epic fail, though.

Tileset/Chipset Limitations: Still one of the core issues many people have with RMVX, even with all those chipset swappers now available. Nothing avoids the fact that RMVX's map editor is a needlessly limiting piece of utter shit and nothing states this better than the sentiment presented in this topic.

Database: I thought this was actually an advancement from RMXP because Noteboxes, but I'm not a full-time scripter so I won't go further.

So before people say that Ace will just be junk wrapped in beautiful wrapping paper
Only problem is that it actually is, assuming sprite makers and minor DBS modifications are the primary additions to VX Ace. They address absolutely nothing that the users have a beef with. I'm sure we all want to be proven wrong, but then there's RMVX's Shitty Map Editor(tm) and IGM. RGSS3 is potentially interesting, but we've yet to see it so I personally will defer judging that until later.

I'm pretty sure most people still hate VX. I mean, there are some fans, but it was a step in the wrong direction in terms of the editor. Most people, even the fans of VX, can agree with that.

Which sadly is exactly why the following will happen:

-The fans will be pissed that they made no actual upgrades.
-Dumbassbrain will overcharge at click team prices for the product.
-They will lie about features not even there.
-They will try to make it hard to crack.
-Then once again a person will find out or the 4th time they have just copy and pasted a crappy editor and realize the rpg maker xp keygen works on this to. For the forth time.
-All of the people who pay for it (probably me and you) will be dissapointed.
-Everyone elses will get it free.
-Idiotbrain will lose money.
-Idiotbrain will cry about how they are losing money with an "upgraded program"
-they will do the same thing again.

Honestly, VX has way too many problems to list.

Also didn;t they just releases that $20 dollar japanese tileset pack that came with 10 monsters, 5 new tiles (wow) and like 5 characters? lol really?

Also, IG maker has absolutely no support. Too bad visually IG maker just looks like VX ut used in other genres. Which basically is hat it is.

The Japanese expansion came with all new battlers, a whole new set of sprites and a completely remade tilset pack. Unfortunately, almost none of the stuff is compatible with the RTP or any other tileset, so it's a waste of money. As of right now the only thing I've used from that set is the bear sprite.

Lol, even the expansion pack can be hacked with it. heck if this keeps up I might actually stop paying for their products. At least they aren't as ad as Clickteam. Those evil evil men.

To summarize, here's all the new features we'll be looking at based on my observations:

2x2 event tiles as suggested per one of the screenshots.
3 drop boxes under enemy tab (unknown as to how they work for now).
8 stats instead of 6.
Stat management is done through classes now instead of actors.
Battle backdrops can be pieced together using a floor and a background.
Battle system is more streamlined. Still no damage pop-ups though.
Caterpillar system. Works with an active party of 4 and reserve party of 4 (that don't get shown). This hints to a party management system.
Custom chara editor is an even more advanced version of the Famitsu editor.
Damage formulas can be simply typed in. What it damages can be selected, too.
More materials included both graphic and audio.
Noteboxes for database actor and class tabs.
Script editor reveals more modules and has a lot more classes.
Skill cost requirements can be adjusted and not just limited to MP like in VX.
Skills can have additional properties.
"Traits" manager for database actor, class, and enemy tabs.
TP system is basically a limit break/overdrive system.
VX's Tileset limitation is gone. Tilesets can be mixed and matched. Properties are individually managed, too.

The "stat management is done through classes now instead of actors." is a welcome change (and fixed a retarded implementation in the first place).

The new Tileset manager seems interesting...

At this point... if it's not Yanfly compatible, I'm really not interested. As far as I'm concerned, YEM WAS the new RPG Maker program for this decade or whatever.
