I love City of Heroes, because it slightly masks the feel of MMORPG dullness with really cool travel abilities you can get in the lvl 4-10 range. So you get used to beat'em'up punch moves, and it's all good then 'lo... you can jump clear across a city block? Awesome.

I have revived my obsession with Ragnarok Online!
I did play Runescape a lot when I was a teenager. I was new to the Internet at the time and didn't know much about it so I was quite impressed by the whole MMO stuff. I went pretty far within the free account options, completed every quest but the Dragon Killer one and I had gathered a lot of Runic equipment.

But I did not like the spending of awful amounts of time to get resources and level grinding. And that's what keeps me from most MMORPGs today. They just don't appeal to me anymore and sometimes I also feel that the interfaces and options are way too exhaustive.

My friend is. I can't be bothered just yet. Looks okay. I just bought SW battlefield 2 to tide me over until I can afford to play old republic
MMOs pretty much suck now. Almost all of them is pay 2 win due to WoW chewing out the competition. MMOs used to be a pretty varied genre and was usually about the social and discovery aspect rather than the grinding. Now every MMO has quests, some rigid class system, and goals aimed at getting gear. Grinding is easier but more focused on.

Star Wars Galaxies was pretty sweet. There were no level requirements or party caps or anything like that. You usually grouped with like 50 people and just wandered around some planet no one has been on blasting anything that moved. Most of the time it was just buffing/healing at set up campsites while talking about random shit. Yeah SWG wasn't a well designed game but that's what made it actually open. It had a lot of cool worldy ideas that no MMO today would ever consider.

I'm looking forward to Guild Wars 2, but uh, it's not going for anything I just mentioned. I'm just interested because it deviates from the MMO formula and seems like a fun action rpg more than anything.

I keep trying to talk kentona into buying the Old Republic, but he counter-suggests that I play some ancient game called Diable 2.
I call the Barbarian!
Another point on FF - pretty sure they'd have pushed past Spirits Within now, but I'd reckon they'd have a looot of financial difficulties with XIV, what with the 'Wow this game is so terrible we have to make it free' thing.

In a sense, they shot themselves in the foot to save money on buying shoes. Then realised medical bills are slightly more expensive than a shoe.

The game is tons better now. Too bad everyone will keep saying "zomg, that sucks forever"
Dark Age of Camelot

best pvp game mechanics I've ever seen anywhere

SWToR: I have 4 emps (Powertech melee dps, Sorcerer Caster DPS, Operative Healz, and Murauder - money maker) and 1 rep (Gunslinger range dps) on infinte empire
VINDICTUS west i play a Karok.

DAoC died but i wish it would go F2P and get peeps back to playing it. I missed playing my champ and infiltrator from it.
Anyone else played Zelda Graal Online? That was the first MMO I played a long time ago. I played it until they added a fee to the game.

Besides that I played Final Fantasy XI for about a month when it came out. I played Guild Wars and World of Warcraft a little, but both of those I also only played for a little while.

I recently tried The Old Republic with my friend's account. I got to level 29, but now I haven't played it in three weeks and I don't really feel like playing it anymore.

Conclusion: Every time I play an MMO I get bored after about a month.
