SUGGEST ME BOARD GAMES
Posts
I love board games, and so does my brother, probably more than myself. I want to get him one for christmas. The problem is there aren't many board games in Brazil... we only have acient ones like Game of Life, Guess Who, Clue, Scotland Yard, etc. My brother is always checking on American websites on cool board games. I decided to buy him one, and I need suggestions. Preferably one I can find in an online store that ships to Brazil, like this one. Something cool, RPG-like would be awesome.

Play King of Tokyo, If you like rpgs and Godzilla movies, this one is for you. It is pretty fast paced and it has enough rpg elements to entertain me and my friends for a while. However, I dislike the game's final king feature, where everyone goes against the best player XD
It is pretty cool, just kick back and try it out.

Settlers of Catan is a ridiculously amazing board game and I'm certain they make it in Portuguese. It's kinda like if Risk and Monopoly had a love child.
I found it on your website here Settlers also has four expansions to it which are all good, though expensive.
I also recommend Carcassone, which may be by the same company. You build the board as you play and determine if and how you wish to draw resources from each tile.
Carcassone on your website This game also has several expansions, which are good, but probably aren't worth the money.
Both games can probably be taught effectively to a ten year old, though I'd say 14 is a good age because they can start to develop sneaky strategies.
I do NOT recommend Arkham Horror despite it's baffling popularity. Good luck, man! Board games ftw!

Oh, some nifty suggestions here:
1) Jumanji: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gS9rSjrilDM&feature=related
If you've heard the movie, this shouldn't be a stranger to you :p
2) Risk: A traditional yet still awesome war strategy board game.
3) Dungeons & Dragons: There ain't no better RPG board game than this. If you don't have this, you're seriously missing things: http://www.dutch-dragons.com/boardgame.html
Other than those, you can always search Google or find here:

Axis and Allies is pretty much the greatest board game ever made.
Memoir 44 is pretty good too if you like war games.

I second Settlers of Catan. Especially the Seafarers and Cities & Knights expansions (but not so much the Barbarians and Traders one). Such an awesome board game - best I've ever played.
I was a huge fan of Hero Quest when I was a kid. It's probably a little dated and unsophisticated compared to more modern games though.
oh man, hero quest was awesome! I couldn't remember the name of that game for the life of me. we used to play that at my cousin's house all the time when we were younger. good times.
Well, I don't know much about board games outside of Monopoly but how does he feel about card games like Munchkin?. Basically everything a board game would have, like rolling dice and well.. cards. Just minus the board. Surprisingly amount of strategy for how simplistic it is, and there's different versions you can buy. The one I played had RPG esque leveling up, fighting monsters, etc. I know you specifically said board games, but might be worth checking out.
What kind of games does he like? For the more casual experience there's some excellent stuff in Carcassonne, Settlers of Catan or Ticket to Ride. These are usually the three "gateway games" that are mentioned. (Of course Catan is a bit more "hardcore", mostly because it takes over an hour to play)
A couple of others I sort of like are Ingenious, Blokus, both are tile-laying abstract games that I find to be very fun (and fairly short so you can have a couple of games in an evening)
Then there's a bunch of co-operative games that range from Pandemic, to crazy stuff like Red November and even Battlestar Galactica or Arkham Horror. Though the last two have a lot of stuff and are not for the faint of heart (but they are also cool with all their "bitz")
Card games can be fun too. And a couple I sort of like are Citadels (or space version Race for the Galaxy), and the pretty popular Dominion, which has a bunch of expansions and basically every new card game that comes out now has something in common with it. (It's the new big thing... or... it came out two years ago so it was the new big thing)
Alright... Already I've listed too many. And I'll list a few more that might be worth a look:
Small World
Through the Desert
Roborally
Bohnanza
Memoir '44
I could go on forever really. None of these should be too hard to find either. The site you listed seemed to have a fair selection. If I know more about what kind of games (or themes/genres) your brother likes I could probably narrow down the list a bit more :D

Yup, Settlers of Catan is also one of my favorites. Also, The Ultimate Showdown is a fairly unknown card game so I don't know if it would be available in Brazil.

Oh, man! That was my favorite expansion!
Munchkin is also excellent. I was going to mention it, but it's mostly a card game. Though there is a totally great board game version called "Munchkin Quest" while I recommend it overall, I don't know if it suits your needs.
Munchkin is quite excellent, and so is Pandemic (but it gets less fun once you figure it out...)
I didn't care for most of the optional games in B&T expansion. they seemed to deviate too far from the core game mechanics for me. I liked the Fisherman tiles and the harbour master card, but that's about it.

LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Space Pirate Amazon Ninja Catgirls. The name says everything.
My favourite board game of all time is Stratego. Loads of fun!
Seriously. Stratego rocks.
Stratego is a board game featuring a 10 × 10 square board and two players with 40 pieces each. Pieces represent individual officers and soldiers in an army. The objective of the game is to either find and capture the opponent's Flag or to capture so many of the opponent's pieces that he/she cannot make any further moves. Players cannot see the ranks of each other's pieces, so disinformation and discovery are important elements of the game.
Seriously. Stratego rocks.
It is fun if you like that kind of game (i.e. if you have more than a 30s patience capacity) and very accessible, nothing like chess.

(Dr House is in fact much less impressive than that poney was. off topic)
I know. I liked the pony, maybe I'll go back to it. But I also like people imagining everything I say in House's voice, and a real photo of him does the job better than a drawing of a pony version of him.
Board games! We should get an RMN game of something going online.
Shinan mentioned all four gateway games I would normally suggest - Settlers of Catan, Carcassonne, Dominion, and Ticket to Ride (though I prefer Ticket to Ride: Europe to the original).
That said, you may want to mention if it's important to be able to play 2-player. Several of the games that have been mentioned play best at 3-4.
