I am fine with gay characters (one of my best friends is gay) but find it rather odd that the characters being gay is being considered somehow a major factor in how the game is being advertised. If that's the most noteworthy thing about the game, then I don't see why the game is even worth talking about.

Basically I'm seeing it as a marketing gimmick to get people hyped over an otherwise unremarkable game, and we're all falling for it.

I'm pretty sure the guy you played as in FF7 was gay.

I agree that it's unremarkable, but disagree that a thread full of references and jokes about gay characters in other games counts as falling for the marketing ploy. I haven't even clicked on the link in the OP, and have no desire to.

Yeah, I just remembered my RM2K3 game has a gay character in it. He joins the team because the main character (who is straight) is hot.

Then the two of them spend a year together alone in the wilderness. They are "training." The use of quotation marks in the preceding sentence does not imply anything.

Hell, in the current demo of Dungeon Crawl if you choose a female character then save Alise you still get a kiss. Actually, in that game there's at least two male and female endings that end on a romantic note, regardless of gender. Granted, I don't ham it up or anything. It's just a relationship like any other, really.

To be honest, the incredulity shown is kinda insulting, like it's some sort of 'draw' or 'feature'. It's romance.

I first thought that Crow was gay from Fragile Dreams on the WII when he kissed the main character (A guy btw) on the lips but then it was revealed later in the game that he is actually a robot. So, the reason he did that was because he thought it was the appropriate way of saying hello.
