BLACK MATERIA: FINAL FANTASY VII
Posts
I know that RPG players (read: pasty white nerds) and rap music isn't usually considered well, SYNONYMOUS, but the two genres have had an unlikely companionship from time to time. It's sort of a well known secret that a lot of rappers actually do love video games, like when Wiz Khalifa sampled Chrono Trigger's Schala's Theme for his song Never Been, and it's really cool when the bar gets pushed even more with albums directly wrapped around video game music, such as Vinyl Fantasy 7.
I'd like to share with you guys another such album by a different guy; Random and Lost Perception's Black Materia. Shit. Is. Awesome. I already like rap, but even if you don't, I think it's worth a listen to open up your mind a little bit to appreciate his work; not only do the lyrics flow masterfully with the tunes, but the tunes are mixed and the production is real nice, and it all fits. He's also got some Mega Man stuff too on his page. Check it out.

The last track was actually pretty solid, but most of the others I listened to sounded kind of weak to me. The standout worst one had to be the first Don Corneo track though.
It did remind me of a friend of mine who used to be a local underground rapper back when we started college. He sampled street fighter two and Tekken music/sound effects. I remember one track was called World Champion. I'm going to try to see if I can dig up any of his stuff... although it has been over ten years, a couple of which I spent more or less living out of a car, so no promises.

Terrible.
Aww. I thought you might have liked it.
I didn't like the Corneo one, though. I don't think that one was meant to be an actual 'serious' effort. I did quite like 'Absolute' and the Turks theme.
I also liked 'Cid', but that might just be because of the line "this emo kid and his friends jacked my ride."
Too much echo. If they recorded their singing without any feedback, adjusted both volumes of the singing and a better quality sound track from FF7, and then worked on that sound's audio properties, it would have sounded much better.
This sounds way too amateur. They sound way too amateur, for them to be selling copies of it.

Let's evolve the topic a bit; what video game tunes/remixes/reduxes do you guys think are cool/would recommend?
I remember really appreciating jazz (really enjoy good rap, but considering the lyrics are really the main part, I'd be curious to see how it works with an rpg..?).
It works really well lyrically, I think. They aptly combine SPITTIN' RHYMES with accurately and succinctly describing the events of the main story.
Wow, is it rap? your language level has risen by 3 or4 between your 2 posts, which is good as all those sophisticated words are particularly easy for me to understand as they are "the same" (same roots) as in french.
English is about 40% bastardized french, and french and english also have strong latin roots.
Anywho, I didn't care for this too much. They didn't really remix the FF7 songs at all (they seemed to just add a heavy drum track), so they felt uninspired to me.

Really? Almost all of the songs are remixed extensively enough to fit the format (rap). He's pretty acclaimed, but I guess not everyone digs him; I respect that.
Ive heard of Random but not lost perceptions. I'll probably check this out sometime, post my thoughts later. Also I used to be pretty hard out into Tupac so I'll probably appreciate this.
Also check out this dubstep of Pokemons Lavender Town.

In a lot of cases I would agree, but I found this one pretty good. That new Syndicate game with the Skrillex song isn't bad either.
As a rapper myself and an avid video game fanatic, I love the idea rap / hip-hop being mixed with video games. Feldschlacht IV, I 100% agree with you, brilliant topic.
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

The Black Mages are at the top of my list, personally. Also the Red Wings. Hard rock versions of video game music in general.

Also, this is unrelated. But hilarious.
Powerglove is an example of people who mix rock/metal with video game music.

Well, to name some actual video game rap, Duane and Brando crack me up and have enough skill to be listenable.
