What does the age of your time peridot do to the story line? What's would be the different from a future time set or a a time where humans have just build the first few wooden villages?
Peridot is a rare gem. I think you mean 'period'.
It changes a lot of things. Language, clothing, what weapons can be used, what battles can take place, everything that deviates throughout history. You can't logically have gunfights in the 1500s.
It also changes the roles people play in society. For example currently we have emphasis on profiteering and capitalism. In older societies, farming, crops and reproduction were what concerned people. Although wealth was good, it was restricted to nobles and those of noble blood, so peasants never considered there was another possibility. Also, if you're sticking to a period's tropes accurately (which people rarely do) women are usually objectified and seen as cooks/mothers and have very little else to do with daily life.
I hope that answered your question :>

You should do your own research. I'd recommend reading 'Clan of the Cave Bear' for a good interpretation of basic civilization. We're talking 4000 years ago+. I might be a History student but I can't tell you that sort of thing ^^''
