Would anyone know if a system similar to the Ogre Battle (not Tactics Ogre mind you!) has been done? Ie: you have units an overworld map and when they run into enemy they initiate a battle between that unit's party and the enemy unit's party?

Are you talking about an exact copy of the map and battle system mechanics (I doubt anyone ever did this) or only about the "run into enemy units on the map and teleport to battle" part? (which has been done countless of times).
Mode 7 (the World map) has been done for both Rpgmaker VX and XP :)
The Isometric battles are the same~
More of an exact copy. Multiple units on the map, each representing a single individual party.
Ogre Battle fits in the RTS mold pretty well, so no. I had an idea for an RM game where it was essentially ripped off from FF6's war minigame (multiple parties, fight rpg battles to block off onmap enemies) except that would be the entire point of the game. But nothing of the sort has been executed as far as I know.
Hmm... do you think a similar idea could be pulled if it was converted to a turn-based system rather than real time?
It would be kind of weird, like a gimped FFT. http://rpgmaker.net/games/42/ This game pulled off a neat fire emblem/FFT clone p well, but let's just say there's a reason why he switched to a coding language.
If you use RPGMakerXP/VX and can script, you can make pretty much anything.

Doing something like this in RPGMaker2K/2K3 souns like a real pain, though (but it's probably possible).

EDIT: I saw just now that he was asking if it was alreay done, and not if he could do it... I've never seen anything like that, but maybe you could do it by mixing&matching some scripts (though you'd probably have to have some scripting experience yourself).
