RANDOM BATTLES? NO PROBLEM! RM2K3

Hello all, I'm new to the site as well as Rpg Maker. I'm currently running 2k3 and I'm getting annoyed that the only way to get random battles is to create monster groups. Is there any other way that one could run it differently. For example, if I'm in a desert area, I am able to set monster A, monster B and monster C to randomly show up in battle. Instead of making predetermined "random" battles using monster groups.

I'm really tired and I hope this makes sense.
I think the only way would be to create a custom battle system and then you would be able to do what you said. But otherwise i don't know.
I wish you could do what you describe!

Alas, there is no easy way of doing that using the default system. :(
You can.

Here's what you need:
Your random monster group. Fill it up with 9 enemies (the maximum number - 1), for example, have three Monster A's, three Monster B's, and three Monster C's and make them all invisible (right click on the enemy and select the only option that comes up)

Next add a 'Dummy' enemy, and make sure he has no monster graphics (or his monster graphic is completely transparent). He's just there to get the battle started. Since all the other enemies are invisible, the fight will just end as soon as it starts without him.

Now add a battle event that triggers on Turn 0/Turns Elapsed 0. Here's where you decide who you fight. For example, you could do something like this:

SomeVariable = RandomNumber 0 to 1
if(SomeVariable == 0)
ShowHiddenMonster 1:MonsterA
SomeVariable = RandomNumber 0 to 1
if(SomeVariable == 0)
ShowHiddenMonster 2:MonsterB
SomeVariable = RandomNumber 0 to 1
if(SomeVariable == 0)
ShowHiddenMonster 3:MonsterC
ect.

This algorithm is not recommended, since you could have random groups of nine monsters, or none. Its just there for demonstration.
Then at the end of the event:

Change Condtion: 10: DummyMonster to DEAD

This removes the Dummy monster from the fight so you won't have to kill him to win the fight.

Edit the random revealing accordingly.

We need code tags.
There is a code tag. Just click the # button.
Correction:

We need a real code tag
That does something.
I'm sure wip will do something like that for you.
Hmm, interesting. I think I may try that. Thanks for the help.
I've found a way to create random battles.

First off you're going to need to open the "M. Group" tab. Create a new monster group called "Random Monsters".

Now, here's the secret, let's say you wanted to use Goblins as your monster group. Find the goblin and click the add 8 times. You should now have 8 goblins lined up in your battle screen. Finally, highlight your "Random Monster" group and press "ctrl+r", or right click your "Random Monster" group and click the Random button.

Once you do this, every battle will randomly generate up to 8 monsters on screen.

Try it out. It's a lot better than making 1 goblin group, 2 goblins group, etc and then adding them all in the created area.
Hmm, sounds like something in a newer version of RM2k3. I don't have a Random choice at all.

Nice to see it is possible without the method I described above though.
Yeah, I don't have that either and I am running v1.08. Also, there is no context menu when you right click a monster group. Could we see some screenshots please?

EDIT: NVM, I see it. You right click the left monster group list entry, not the one on the right.

I'm using 1.08... :-\
Ah, I see it now. I thought you meant the monsters, not the group name itself.

Way to hide it you bastards. I never knew it even existed!

I'm using 1.04. I... usually just don't update things, it has a terrible tendency to make things work worse. :(

Congrats to you on figuring this out. Unfortunately i have no use for this as i have no random encounters. ;)

Really? I don't think that 1.04 has mp3 support, does it?
Craze
why would i heal when i could equip a morningstar

I absolutely love the (R)andom function. You could only make one group for each area of the game!

Nope, just Midi and Wavs only.
It should be noted here that using this feature can cause problems if you have modified the dbs by defining battle events for monster groups.
