YE OLDE ANCIENT SCREENSHOTS TOPIQUE

Ye Olde Outdated System (RM2k3) screens :
Probably one of the very first game ever attempted. Something about a guy getting whisked to another dimension to fight evil or something.

2008/9/10/11 Works

Giant mess wooo

The city was a giant pile of mess, before I decided to divide it into 9(?) smaller maps. Works better. I believe I release a short demo that allows you to navigate through the city (and that's all).
Also does this mean I spend months only on the cityscape??? (terrible realization)

Battol

Cars

More Car (inside?)

The thing is, instead of a non functioning project/map whatever, I tend to end up with unused sprites (they are not screens, so uh, not appropriate for the topic I guess); since that's when I got stuck most of the time.
Ambitions ambitions.
And no, I can't read script Ruby. A shame.
EDIT
New page, sorry.

S_W - I remember seeing quite a few (maybe all) of those back on GW!
I found some more shots in my old MMF2 projects folder.
A Castlevania fan-game
An exercise in bad grass tiles and general top down fantasy tomfoolery
Unnamed Cyberpunk project #726
Hacking Mini-game from the above
The triangle thing on the left is one of two Ice-Breakers. You have to rotate the blocks into different sequences to try and match the encryption or "lock" on a particular node or port. The little hand icon "grabs" the progam and drops it near the locked area. The hand animates as it flicks the blocks around. The popup to the left is a recorded Lock Pattern. You're fighting against a timer, marked out in the Proxy Routing box on the right, so trying known locks is the best bet. The other set of triangles is for a different encryption type. Some locks in the game would have featured both, so you would have had to alternate which program you used to make progess on the lock. I may still try to do something with it.

@s_w: I know you got more than that don't hide that martial arts game you cancelled either, I am always interested in your projects.
@Killer Wolf: Awesome stuff man, I pondered about using MMF2 a long time ago but never got around to using it. That cyber punk game looks cool, you ever release a demo?

Supreme Warrior - Unfortunately, no, I never released a demo for it. It was very crash prone when going back and forth between the normal areas and the hacking maps. MMF2 doesn't seem to like switching back and forth between two maps that frequently, and my usual fix of just making an auto-save and completely restarting the program each time didn't even fix it 100%
Max McGee- I wish I'd finished a few of them too! I am actually considering trying to adapt that one into an RM engine. My first test with VX a few months ago didn't make me very optimistic, so it would probably be 2k3, or some patched variant thereof.

I thought this is for EMBARRASSING old screens. Are today's embarrassing screens held to a higher standard than yesterday's embarrassing screen standards? Or did I just suck that bad?
Anything interesting! Bad shit that's embarrassing can be interesting. Old projects that died due to X can also be interesting!

i agree, people really need to stop posting anything current or shiny. this thread is for ANCIENT projects. i really want to feel how antediluvian and obsolete they are god damn it.
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Well, if you must know, my shitty RM95 game was from about 11-12 years ago, which would make me 15-16 years old. My website says "Last updated Feburary 1, 2001" which sounds about right since the English translation of RM2000 was what made me hurry up and finish it (so I could start making a sequel, oh my god what was wrong with me). And that game took me well over a year to make, I'm sure.
Fuck, given that I started Vindication immediately afterwards, that makes the oldest parts of Vindication 10-11 years old. Christ. And I released an update to Vindication, like, less than two weeks ago. (It's been a finished game for about a year now, but I can't stop myself from endlessly tweaking things)

Mine are from 4-5 years ago actually! Apparently I am just very good at recycling graphics! Though I've since moved onto putting my own original spin on the rips I used to abuse.
Mine are from at least three years ago, with the one from my "cinematic jrpg style game" being the oldest at seven years old. Now, if you want some embarrassing stuff, I'm going to have to dig through my old laptop. I think I might still have some cringe-worthy artifacts of fledgling RM-ing in there someplace. =)
I think LockeZ...wins this topic.
All of my work from that period is pre-screenshot, actually, i.e. before it occured to me to take any screenshots.
And 12 years ago it was 1999 and I was 13 years old and I don't think I'd discovered any RPG Maker except the PSX one.

Oh my god, the PSX one was so bad.
Fire beats ice, ice beats lightning, lightning beats fire. YOU CANNOT CHANGE IT.
And then because it was for PSX you couldn't distribute your game without lending each person who wanted to play it your RPG Maker disc and your memory card.
I was so excited when I found RPG Maker 95 because I could import midi music and .bmp monster images and use whatever resources I wanted. I could even change the effects of spells and everything! And I could put the game on my Geocities website for all my friends to download and play! SO COOL.

I don't remember having that limiation to the elements, but you're damn right about the fucking memory card issues.
I actually discovered RM2k when I was trying to figure out how to upload data from my PS1 memory card online.
True story.
As soon as I saw they had ZOMGZ WEATHER EFFECTS in 2k (this was HUGELY IMPRESSIVE TO ME for some reason) I was like FUCK THIS and I moved on from RM PS1 to RM2k.

Haha, Toby's Quest anyone? (PS1 RM sample game).
Oh and as ancient project goes, I actually still feel a bit sour being a latecomer in the RM scene. Basically I discovered RPGmaker in like... 2006-ish? (YOU CAN MAKE/DOWNLOAD RESOURCES AND SHARE 'EM???) Took me a year or so to get accustomed to it and about a year or two to get better at pixelling. By that time it was XP/VX's time. If only I know about it sooner (when I have more free time)...
@KillerWolf
I got a few of your screens saved up as well. Mainly for the pixelworks hehe. And that hacking minigame looks really rad.
@SW (Supreme Warrior)
I tried to find some screens for that one, but I couldn't find it. Oh well.
@Dudesoft
Kind of lost/abandoned my old project after I made (most of) my unused resources (sprites mostly) public a few years back. Haven't looked back since. So yes, guilty as charged here.
And indeed, everyones' project looks really neat! *saved*
Thanks for the compliments :)

And now, for some embarrassing stuff... these are some of the earliest attempts I ever made at using Rm2k, and it shows!
A game about a fallen Archangel... also, Rule#1 NEVER use your own face as a face set. Ever.
Max, get ready to lament another failed Cyberpunk game.
I even tried a classic monster type mystery with a thinly veiled Psychic Sherlock Holmes analog... His right hand man? Dr.Hoyle, of course.
This was going to be a Final Fantasy style game, I think. It was also one of my first attempts at a custom battle system that popped up on the exploration map.
At one point, this honestly seemed like a GOOD idea...
