STREET FIGHTER X TEKKEN - IT COMES OUT
Posts
EDIT: OMG I'M SUCH AN IDIOT. Why didn't I finish the topic title!?!?!?
I was bored, and since I haven't seen this yet in the Videogames thread, I figured why the hell not.

Street Fighter X (pronounced 'CROSS') Tekken is the latest upcoming fighting game from Capcom. As you may have guessed, it is a crossover between the characters of the Street Fighter series and the characters of the Tekken series.
Now, for those of you who know--yes--both of these games are actually played differently. Street Fighter has a 6-button layout, whereas Tekken uses a 4-button system; however, the game will be using, for the most part, the Street Fighter system. Whether or not the Tekken characters in the game would be able to fight and execute attacks like they do in their own game was one of the fans biggest concerns, but it has already been confirmed that the Tekken characters will be able to be played just like they normally would be.

Quite a large amount of information has already been revealed for SFxT.
- Fight with a team of 2 people. Though each character has an "official" team, you have the option of selecting whatever two characters you want for you team.
- The Gem System (which currently has most fans up-in-arms) allows the player to attach enhancing gems to their character that do various things, such as increase attack power, increase speed, or even have the character auto-block attacks. This was added so that mirror matches between the same characters wouldn't be as predictable and simple.
- Pandora Mode is somewhat the equivalent of MvC3's X-Factor. When you activate Pandora, the character you're currently using sacrifices the rest of their health and strengthens their partner. The now-empowered character has a limited amount of time to win the match, but they are much stronger and can use special moves and whatnot without their super-meter decreasing at all.
There are more features, as well. The video above will pretty much explain everything in detail...fuck you I'm lazy
I also would like to note that on the main website they have 27 characters on display. It was stated at some point in the past in that are still many more characters to be revealed. Most of the "leaked characters rosters" (all of which have been proven false at this point) had about 6 or 7 more than this for both the Street Fighter AND Tekken side. Which is awesome.
Here's some frackin' gameplay:
WILL YOU CROSS THE LINE?!?!omg lol im such a dork
Here is the official website
Oh, one last note.
SCRAMBLE BATTLES 4 CHARACTERS ON THE SCREEN AT THE SAME TIME 4 PLAYERS PLAYING AT ONCE OMG WTF AWESOME
So what do you guys think? Will you be getting this game?

I used to be so into fighting games. Then I started playing them online(and at tournaments) only to constantly go up against people who master cheap tactics that suck the fun right out of them :/ Street Fighter is bad for that, but Tekken was a little more forgiving. I don't think this uses 8 direction movement, does it? (Sorry, not interested in doing research)
I think you can fix the name of your own topic now, I read that somewhere recently. It's funny like that though :P

Street fighter vs tekken will use street fighters 2d fighting system as a base, tekken vs. street fighter will use tekkens 3d fighting system as a base.

Yes, that's correct. There's virtually no information out about Tekken X Street Fighter, though.

Well, Street Fighter is about pulling off combos, albeit extremely difficult and something that takes a lot of practice to do. I'm sure some of the cheap tactics you're talking about are things like cross-ups and FADC's. Those tactics just make it so.
But, I wholeheartedly understand your sentiment. Street Fighter is one of the only games that I play anymore that upsets me when I lose multiple times. Hell, according to my player records on the game, I've only won 46% of my matches only. I'm not a pushover, but I'm not a tournament-level player either. (even though I'd kinda like to be).

Fighting games are one of those genres where the skill gap between great players vs. novices are pretty much gods/mortals. The players who constantly dominate aren't cheap, they're just that good, which takes years and years of practice.
Cheap is just a term used for stuff you don't know how to counter. You're not having fun because you don't know how to be adaptive/competitive.
As for Tekken x SF I'm really interested in seeing street fight characters perform in a 3D environment. I don't think this has ever been witnessed Street Fighter Z or w/e was still 2D right? SF x Tekken just seems like another tag game to me.

There are definitely godlike players, and I'm not experienced enough to consider myself awesome at all fighting games(it takes more time than I have available), but there is no denying that cheap tactics exist and that they suck the fun out of the games. Inescapable combos and exploiting in-game timings. You might call them "smart" but I call them "cheap". (You don't have to agree, and please don't try and get me to agree with you) I'm the type of person that would allow my opponent to get up instead of spamming moves to keep him down, in friendly matches. A tournament would be a different story if there's money on the line.
It's nice that fighting games have online these days, but I wish there was a more effective way to play against people of equal skill level. The only people(that seem to be) online are uber-pros. I dunno, guess I always join in the fray too late and everyone already reached the highest bar while everyone else quit(or moved onto the next game). I occasionally find someone of mid-range skill, but it's too rare to be fun. There are rank/level systems, but all too often I see rank 1 players getting perfects cause I couldn't get up after being knocked down once. It's like they get a kick out of starting a new profile just to get perfect on unsuspecting newbies. Yeah, yeah "I don't know how to counter". Not entirely true.
Your experience online may vary, but that's mine with SF. Soul Calibur and Tekken are more forgiving because of the 3d movement, and movement in general is easier. That's why I like Smash Bros, wider range of movement in the strategies. SF is a little too closed in, limited in that sense. But that's just personal preference.
I hope they put in the parry system from SF, that made the game so much better. Every fighting game should have some kind of parry system.

Street Fighter is one of the easiest fighting games to recover after getting knocked down. It's extremely forgiving and there are a million ways to get back on a fair level after a knockdown, there are entire strategies around doing it effectively, especially since the format of the game means that you HAVE to at least get back on your feet before the opponent can get another attack in; you cannot get hit while on the ground in Street Fighter.
so uh
so uh
Well, I didn't say I got hit on the ground. It was when I tried to recover that I would get hit. I would just stand up when I land, got hit. I would try to roll back and forward, got hit. I would try to tech land, was still getting hit. The worst was when I was playing as Ikumi. Apparently you can't use her against a pro because of her shitty ground recovery(think I read that on gamefaqs guide), it's got some huge lag or something. I ended up switching characters. I did have better luck with Dudley.
Yeah see you're proving my point, dawg. You can't claim 'cheap tactics' if you don't even know a VERY VERY basic maneuver that's even explained in the paperback manual.
(tap D when you hit the ground to roll escape before you get up)

Well, my claim on cheap tactic wasn't specific to SF. Just to clarify.
That move is what I meant by tech land, I knew about that. I thought there was something else where you can attack while on the ground, or something. Like in Tekken. Using Tekken as an example, you can roll in all directions and attack from a grounded position. I find that SF has less options after your knocked down so the attacker is able to control you more.
Also, I don't have the paperback manual :P Digital Download. Was there a digital manual? I forget. I did read lots about the game but I could be missing a few things here and there. I read it all at once and just started getting experience in practice mode.
On topic: I did see videos and the game does look pretty rad. I love games with tons and tons of characters. I could probably see myself getting the Tekken x SF game. I'd like to demo it first, though.

Street Fighter is notoriously cheap-feeling to people who don't play often.
I am friends with a guy who's crazy good at SF, so I have to try and keep pace, despite only knowing hoduken. It feels like anal rape, especially against Akuma shadow rape, or Seth or that nasty ass Rufus. My ability to remember Ryu, Chun-Li, Dalsem, or Blanka (read: easy characters of SF 1) barely helps me against any character. I can basically hold my own in losing 1 - 3. Unless you have time to practice your timing on blocking (I have no ducking clue how you say its easy to block without memorizing character moves / timing) .
I'm sure it gets easier as you do it, like all things, but gaddamn does SF feels fucktons cheaper than other games I've played.
Important: the guy I play against, and myself also play like Link, where we don't spam kill each other like 14 year old prickholes.

Street Fighter (among other fighting games as well) is easy to learn, but hard to master. The same spam killing cheap looking manuevers that 14 year olds do to each other are also the easiest and predictable things to counter and play around.
Yelling 'that move isn't fair you keep doing it over and over again' will get you laughed at in any semi-serious fighting game crowd, simply because of the logic that anything that anyone does over and over again short of unplugging the game and running away should be easy to counter. Sure I could walk up to you in the grocery store and punch you dead in the face, once, maybe twice, but come on how you gonna let me punch you in the face like 8 times?
There are very few moves and strategies that can work against a decent player by simply spamming them over and over again. Literally almost everything has a counter to it.

Speaking of cheap... How the hell are they going to balance the slower-moving Tekken characters like Kuma, King, Jack, or even Paul Phoenix vs Akuma, Ryu, or Rufus?
The same way they've always done it. Fast doesn't mean good. Akuma, while good, for example has the stamina of a paper cup. Also Ryu ain't fast.
Most fighting games don't balance everything out, it seems. There will always be high tier and low tier characters. Some are simply doomed to be low tier and not as effective as others.
