It's a general rule, but it also applies to this game: Always having the best equipment and grinding out two or three extra levels from time to time make a noticeable difference. You should also check how the enemies attack. Some only use physical skills, while others only use magic - or they use both, but only one of that is a threat. Most fights are a lot easier if the party's (de)buffers concentrate on the enemy's most dangerous weapon. There's also some good in-game advice (though rater late), e.g. it's sometimes better to kill an an enemy as quickly as possible, while other fights require a more patient approach.

@Euphoniac you know your RPGing :)
played the demo on steam. Ran into a bunch of *annoying* things, some of which caused game overs.

First one is that, without warning, I loose all items with no compensation. I know someone afterwards said 'if only we'd sold all that stuff' but this is still pretty dumb. You want me to watch the cutscene of me being rekt again just to go sell some stuff? Shouldn't he lose the money too?

Some of the bosses were massively annoying, starting with the troll. I had no idea he needed to get Fire on him before fighting him, a couple of villagers mentioned seeing a troll but I dont remember anyone saying he needed to get Fire on him, I tried fire because of outside knowledge from another game. No idea how you expect any random joe to know this. Speaking of learning spells, I didnt teach cure to nolan and now i lost the item from the event mentioned above.

The game is highly dependent on using magic, but one of my characters cant use magic and the other one dies faster than an old guy without a Life Alert. I wasn't kidding when I say the next boss literally oneshot the other guy right on the first turn before I could do anything. The rest of the battle was just me trying to survive and unable to do any damage due to needing to deal with constant poison and blind, making the physical attack char totally useless.
Of course him doing 3 punches at once and spamming poison at all times, the healers can't really out-heal the DPS and I really dont know what to tell you.
I dislike compulsory grinding, and I did some of it outside the zombie cave but unlike some people I am not going to sit around griding for 2 hours straight.

I like a challenge but seeing my guy just get one-shot right on the first turn (and they go first) made me feel this was extremely unfair.

@bicfarmer

I've never gotten any feedback from the Steam Demo and I'd be curious to know what the game overs were (unless you just mean you died, cuz that's different). I haven't updated the Demo as I have done the actual game, but the Demo should be in solid shape. Let me know.

- You lose those items without compensation, yes. That's the storyline, but it only happens once like that throughout the rest of the game.
- The book on Calista's desk tells the player that Fire eliminates Regeneration. I'd NEVER make a game that would put a player in a spot where they have to die first in order to learn how to advance past a boss via trial and error. In fact, I probably pointed out too much in this game and gave too many clues, but you've gotta explore and treat it like the real thing to get the full effect :)
- The game is made so that if you kill the "dungeon" enemies (as opposed to the overworld ones) you will be more than strong enough to get thru it. In the Garden, your party should be level 6 with zero grinding and be able to defeat the 2 bosses. I dislike grinding as well, and that's why I put the "live" enemies in the game to pace the player. But you absolutely cannot skip all overworld fights and most of the "dungeon" enemies and expect to win :(
- No boss one-shots anyone in this game.

But I appreciate the feedback! If you have any problems with the Steam Demo let me know as well! I ran thru it once quick myself but have gotten so few DLs that I've had zero feedback.

Based off what happened at that point, I dont see any reason for you to loose all your items. This never happens in any other RPG I played, and it's extremely annoying and tantamount to a forced reload just to sell them all right beforehand. My guess is you dont want the next party to start out too strong, but that's pointless if you keep the money anyway.

That's good, but the reason I missed this is because Calista is positioned so that she directly blocks access to the rest of her house unless RNG makes her move away from the entrance. That's the reason I didnt really poke around in her house at all.

I fight most of the enemies (not all of them, maybe left 1-3 around), and I grinded a few minutes up to level 5 when I first got the new party, since you had to run between the town and the zombie cave a couple times to trade over items from the cave. I am up to level 6 in the garden.

- No boss one-shots anyone in this game.
As soon the boss fight starts, he goes first because he, along with almost every other enemy in this area, outspeeds my party. The flower sleep spam was already pretty annoying but I didn't complain about that due to free heals at the end of battles there. But the fact remains that this boss DID oneshot my party member, on the first turn, before I could do anything about it. He did three punches which amounted to about 90 damage, more than the maximum HP of 2 of the party members.

I didnt run into technical issues, which is always a nice thing. I think game is pretty good, just that there are some annoying elements to it that are pretty unfair.

Okay good, because I wasn't sure if there was something causing a crash. Again, I appreciate the feedback <3

Yeah, the party being level 6 at the two bosses in Gardenia should make it pretty winnable. I know Simonee is very weak early but like you said, the free heals make things better prior to the bosses and compensate out the damage you take from the early pollen.

Just so you know, when I play the game myself (like 10 times already during playtesting/bugtesting), I get to the Gardenia bosses and I'm late level 5/early level 6. And that's me making direct routes everywhere... so you did a good job making a bee-line thru the storyline - the results will be a lot more strategic combat necessary on your end to compensate being "bare-bones" leveled. Playing those two bosses back to back with a level 7 party instead of level 6 makes a WORLD of difference (the extra 18-20 HP is another entire turn where you can do whatever you want before heals are necessary). Most people who've reached out to me are level 8, sometimes 9. So kudos to you getting thru the story so fast. <3

Glad you enjoy it.
Ok. I need help. I'm trying to get Petra into the Orc encampment but I can't find the east entry that my little Elf friend told me about. Can someone post a screenshot or something? I watched the playthrough on Youtube but it really didn't help.

Let me know if this doesn't cut it for you. https://imgur.com/oTiXc9q

Edit: Ha Ha I just watched that youtube as well and he cuts out the entrance. :(
Oh, that's a great help. Yes, I thought I was doing something wrong because I couldn't see it. I thought those playthroughs were supposed to be unedited. LOL
Sorry about that. I tend to be lazy in recording gameplay in that I stop the recording when traveling on the map or fighting mobs, mainly because I have a horrible sense of direction.
No worries. It just really confused me.
I played the demo once and have feared that this game will be commercial.

Question:
Do you like to have a complete walkthrough for your game? (not on Youtube but as a pdf for download)
I would write one for you in exchange for the game (I can't afford this, sorry).
I would even combine it with a beta-test to eliminate possible bugs/gliches or typos.

There aren't many games from steam that I really liked but this one I do.

You can PM me if you like.
So... Where do I go after the pyramid? :|
This seems to be a "popular" problem. :D

Quoting what GoldenUnicornGaming said on Steam: "Go back to Mihr, and walk south through the Gnollwood. Once out of the Gnollwood, you'll see the Dreadfort. Rickard and his camp are set up there."

Euphoniac is correct. I might have to update the game with a blurb to remind the player where to go because Rickards instructions are pre-pyramid. :)
I got it. Research served me well. I'm about done with the game so my review should be up on here and Steam over the weekend.
