Success of the Kickstarter + Moving forward

As many of you are aware, the Vacant Sky: Awakening Kickstarter concluded yesterday. Although we didn't reach our funding goal, the fundraising effort was an enormous success. We gained a huge amount of support as well as new friends and fans of the series. I was blown away by the helpfulness of everyone who contributed, and I especially thank everyone who gave us suggestions and helped get the word out.
I can't thank the users here at RMN enough. Even though the post about the Kickstarter was only up for a couple days, RMN still managed to be the single biggest source of donors of any one site. A total of 23 people from RMN pledged $2,471. Considering the negative backlash that the fundraising effort drew, I was really surprised that so many people here were still willing to contribute. I don't know who you are, but I'm really grateful for the help that you lent.
As for our future plans, we're not going to let this stand in the way of making the game that we dream of. Although only a day has passed, several backers have already encouraged us to relist the project and this support is really encouraging.
That said, we did learn a lot from these (insanely stressful) past 30 days. We plan to regroup, consider a new strategy, and relist in the near future. Before that, however, there are a few things that are going to take priority:
1) Finishing Vacant Sky Complete Edition.
It hasn't fallen by the wayside! The Kickstarter has brought in a lot of new fans of the series and they've made it clear that they really want to see the Complete Edition. Not only will it finally bring volume 1 to its long-awaited conclusion, but it should also rekindle interest in the series among old players as well as give us something to prove to potential new backers of our skills.
As of right now, Act I+ and Act II+ are pretty much done, pending the implementation of a few new skills. Act III is coming along - I just completed my first full playthrough of Return yesterday, so we're almost ready to move on from the implementation phase to the polish and debugging phase.
If anyone is interested in helping us beta test, then please let me know by a PM or post here!
2) Create a demo.
The problem with using Contention Complete as a demo to draw in new backers is that although it's updated, it's still outdated - since then, we've all improved as artists, game designers, writers, and developers in general. So, we've decided to produce a short demo using the new setting, the new engine, and the new characters in order to showcase just how far we've come since the original game.
We're still deciding on the exact details of the demo and what it will contain, so keep your eyes peeled for updates in the near future.
Thanks again to everyone for your support and I hope you all look forward to future news from us.

Huh... I'm really surprised. I've been following this game for a while, but I didn't realize it was going commercial. I was hoping to play the... updated...? ...fixed? version of the game without having to buy a copy of it. Granted, I only got about 20 minutes into the game when I found out that the game was being changed, so I stopped before I got too invested and then had to replay due to (seemingly significant) changes.
Now it seems I should snag the 3 current acts before they disappear. Hopefully I can get a good idea of what's in store for the commercial release. Probably won't get it though...
Anyway, kudos I suppose.

No, this game isn't going commercial - I guess I should've made it more clear to those who weren't around for the earlier debacle. We're working on a new game, Vacant Sky: Awakening, which is a prequel, and is commercial. This game isn't going anywhere and the Complete Edition will still be free.
I'm curious as to what you thought being "successful" was when you started up your Kickstarter, and please, give me an honest on that one. Also, I do need to be brutally honest on a couple of points.
1. If you're really serious about "reinventing the classic RPG", you're going to first have to reinvent yourself. Hell, your whole team will probably have to reinvent themselves to some degree.
"But Emirpoen, we've come along way since volume 1 act 1 was released."
Assuming I actually addressed a though you might be having (I'd hate to strawman), I am willing to give you the benefit of the doubt and agree with that point. What I'm talking about is digging really deep, thinking and looking at different ways on whole new levels. Ok, maybe that was a bit much, or maybe I'm crazy.
2. "Angel Rape". Congratulations if you made it this far without wanting close this or rip out my throat (and hands). Now to my point; If there's anything your known for outside of your fanbase, its clearly this. This is definitely something you're gonna have to work on making nothing more than a footnote if you're going big.
If you wanna be mad at me or hate me for this, fine. Also, my PM box is more than open if you don't feel like dragging anyone else into this discussion
Edit: Also, I highly advise against blowing off tft's post. Its something you should seriously ponder for at least 5 minutes, assuming you haven't done so already.

Getting 100% funded was our goal for success when we started the Kickstarter - what else would it be? We didn't succeed as much as we'd have liked to, but we learned a lot from our mistakes and gained a huge amount of support that we didn't have before, so I'm confident that we'll make our target with ease when we relist.

I'll be honest, that's really too vague for me to understand what you're suggesting.
What I'm talking about is digging really deep, thinking and looking at different ways on whole new levels. Ok, maybe that was a bit much, or maybe I'm crazy.
I'm still not sure what you're trying to say.

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or what, but since that debacle happened so long ago, I'll give the benefit of the doubt and explain. Back when Vacant Sky 1 won the Misaos, a lot of people were crying about it and tried to find a justification for insulting the game but couldn't be bothered to actually play it. Instead, they frantically Googled criticism of the game to parrot and stumbled across a joke review of the game, which they cited.
No, it's not something that actually happens, but trolls won't let something as inconvenient as facts get in their way - especially when equipping themselves with legitimate criticism would require playing the game.

Why would I be mad at you? I appreciate the suggestions. My goal is to be the best developer that I can be and to produce the best games that I can, so I'm always open to hearing other opinions.
Edit: Also, I highly advise against blowing off tft's post. Its something you should seriously ponder for at least 5 minutes, assuming you haven't done so already.
There's a legitimate point there, but it's buried beneath so many layers of hyperbole and deception that I have no reason to reply. The comment thread is filled with people looking to pick a fight who neither know the facts nor care to be educated about them, and I have no desire to get dragged down into internet drama.
I'll try to answer a few things here.
1) Too vague? Fear not, you'll understand eventually.
2) No sarcasm intended. Also, if you really stand behind what you just said, I'm sure you wont mind me putting it to the test for myself once Volume 1 complete is out.
Can we really call the kickstarter a success then? I'm sorry to be brutally honest twice in 1 day, but the last time I checked, it got about 49% of what it needed to be successful. It was Unsuccessful, to put it simply, a failure. To call it a success, in my opinion, make it sound like you're in a state of denial. Hold on though, just hear me out on what I'm about to say! Yes, I'm certainly taking into account about the other things that happened in your favor. Failure can generate that sometimes. It's not always a case of all or nothing you know. I suppose this is rather subjective though, so I'll leave it at that.
(tl;dr: Don't be afraid of the word or the concept of "failure")

I'm not sure what you're getting at. If it's really that big a deal to you, you could ask any of the thousands of people who have already played the game.

It's not as much of a success as I was hoping for, but it's a great start.
Heh; Dude, you should quit making games and become a politician instead. You'd make it big time, and get loads of money too!
Seriously, calling the Kickstarter a "resounding success" no less, is one hell of an stretch if not just plain dishonest. Sure, you may have gotten some good out of it, but the whole point of the site is to get funding and you didn't. It says it right there in the page: funding UNSUCCESSFUL. Does it hurt to type those words or something? Because you have done nothing but to twist your wording around to your convenience like it's some kind of damage control move... I guess this ties with what TFT said about rm developers being from another world. It's like putting our feet on the ground is just too difficult sometimes, eh?

While I think that this kickstarter thing sounds like a stupid money grab too, I have NO IDEA what this guy is on about. The developer has every right to ask what you mean by this since it makes no fucking sense.
You start off with "angel rape" is that supposed to mean something? Is it a person's avatar name? then there's a couple more lines before you get to "your point" and that point boils down to: "this is what you're known for, change this if you want to be big"
what is "THIS?"
What is it you are saying, sir?
EDIT: if you don't meet your goal on kickstarter does that mean you get no money?
I mean, even if she didn't get 10k, 5 or 6 would still be nice, right?

Awwwww, c'mon. No need to be such a negative nancy. :D

That's right. We'll be giving it a second shot in the near future with a different approach.
When you say that's right. Do you mean, "that's right, we did get no money?" or did you mean "that's right, it'll be nice to have 5 or 6 grand"

The former. Kickstarter is all or nothing.

I see that you joined just recently, so some of its probably going a bit over your head, but it's ok. Basically, its has to do with a supposed scene in sailerius's game. Now, being the guy that's trying to be fair and objective ( I say trying because some cases prevent me from doing so *cough* kisareth studios *cough*), Ive already offered to look into the matter myself. This should go smoothly, provided I am able to be somewhat amused the whole time. (I do expect the tweaking and 1 system across the board to make the experience better than the vol 1 and 2 by themselves).
So this TFT guy is jealous because he is not able to make any money with his shitty games? Or why is he making a blog article where he is whining and posting that link to it here? Can't see any other reaseon. Ha ha.
Don't be narrow minded... That's like a teenage argument.

Emirpoen. Your comments seem to be on a completely different wavelength. It's like I'm still trying to get to what you are talking about.
Ok. so there is a scene or a "supposed" scene in sailerius's game...which you are willing to look into as long as you can remain amused.
Well that's very nice for you but what bearing does it have on what you were saying before and to what end were you bringing it up. Seriously I am at a loss to find the message in your comments.
I don't want to come off as though I'm argueing with you, I just what to know what you mean.

Its simple really. I'm going to be a third party in all of this. Is Sailerius right, or the "trolls" as he puts it right? I'll (try) to do the reasonable and rational thing and see for myself. If I have to retract something, I have to retract something. If I have to admit I;m wrong, then so be it. I dont have a problem admitting im wrong when I'm wrong. For now, I will deem "Angel rape" as its known as "inconclusive", meaning I lack proper evidence, and this I will admit, regardless of whatever it may do to my prior post. If this hasn't cleared up enough, just shoot me a PM or whatever.
tl;dr: willing to admit sub par evidence at best, willing to gather proper evidence to prove or disprove point once and for all.
