“Cluck cluck, the Chickens send their regards!”

Chicken Blood, or how I learned to fear the Chicken!

Chicken Blood is a game made in Unity 3D for Theme Roulette 4 by JustAShyDoge!
And despite the title it's a game that features a chicken but not blood!
But trust me, you will learn to fear that chicken!

The plot... wait, what plot? We are stuck inside an abandoned asylum (that includes also a classroom, an operating room, bathrooms and a couple of other various locations) that luckily is not very big, since our mission is to escape opening the exit door after finding the eight iron keys scattered around in different locations.
Mind that the location of the keys is NOT random, it's the same each time you will play, still I needed seven tries (about an hour) before being able to finish the game. Why? Because we are unarmed, alone, and there is the chicken!

Woohoo, that's the fifth key! Other three keys collected and we can try to escape this nightmare!

Yes the chicken, he is only one but it's rather fast and implacable (even if his perception may fail sometimes to notice his prey, luckily!) and he haunts the asylum. We can run faster than him (use Shift key to toggle run movement! I played on "always run" from the beginning to the end), but if he somehow reach us, it's instant game over! I don't know why this chicken is so aggressive and why he want us dead, maybe it's an otherwordly creature since I've seen him going through the doors without needing to open them more than once!
Uhm yes the doors are in some cases a bit annoying, I mean those double doors that opens inward gave me some troubles during the most concitated moments, considered that as said before sometimes (but not always) that demonic chicken does not seem to need to open them!

Anyway the first problem is finding the keys, and believe it or not, I was able to find them all on the first try! Then he killed me. I played again and again but that chicken was a deadly hunter and then... I forgot where one of those damn keys was placed (I have a bad memory, ok?)! Luckily after six victories for the chicken I was able to escape!

Ok, now some thoughs about the game: graphically is well done, the 3D environments are immersive and believable with a good use of the lightning effects (Oh I forgot to say that you have a torch you can turn on pressing the F key, but you probably already knew that!), and while the play area isn't too big, it's a good thing since the aim is to search *everywhere* for the keys and avoid to be caught by the violent feathered killer.
The repetitive sounds and music well enforce the sense of dread and urgence, and I liked a lot how the music changes and you can hear the “cluck cluck" of the death incarnated as it approaches. Really, it's simple but very effective...

He's around the corner, near the exit, isn't he? Well find all the keys, in the meantime I will write the...

... guess what?

The Final Verdict!

Here we are! Ok this was Chicken Blood, a short horror game with exploration and chases (chucken and human instead of cat and mouse) inside a small and dark abandoned and maybe haunted asylum. Considered that this was made in a really short time for the contest, the final result is pretty good, the base concept is simple but well realized, there are no bugs and typos (not that you will find a lot to read!) and everythings is simply perfect, especially the graphics and sound effects, anyway there are only two minor inconveniences:

The first is that the mouse camera movement was really sensible, and it was not possible to adjust that option, so I had to adapt after a while, anyway this may be my problem, since it's a preference and not an error.

Second there is the chicken, the bad guy. Like in many horror games I played, sometimes the bad guy may glitch during chases, staying stuck in a place or suddenly apparing from nowhere or, as I mentioned before, goinf through the doors like an immaterial ghost. Now, I am not sure how many of these that I encountered were glitches and how many this was not the case (for example the very first time I played the chicken patrolled the exit leaving me able to explore the asylum freely, another he appeared suddenly from a door without warning...), anyway it's a chicken, and probably not a normal one so I cannot expect a realistic behaviour, can I?
Ok, jokes aside, dispite the shortness and the (smol) glitches this was a little enjoyable horror adventure. Now I'll be always scared by chickens!
