Update 1.1 Released
I just released Update 1.1. It will likely be the last significant update to the game. As always, you can find it here.
Added two Randomizer Modes: Light and Full.
Added the ability to choose between two battle background styles in the Options menu.
Added two Randomizer Modes: Light and Full.
- These modes are unlocked upon clearing the game once, after which they can be selected when starting a New Game. If you've cleared the game on an existing save file, you'll have to defeat the final boss again in order to unlock them.
- Randomizer (Light) shuffles the locations of major rewards gained from defeating bosses and special battles, checkered tile clears in dungeons, and certain treasure chests. Shop inventories, common items (healing items, buff/debuff items, etc.), and items required for game progression are unaffected.
- Randomizer (Full) randomizes the locations of normal battles, special battles, and bosses in addition to randomizing reward locations. Battles are shuffled according to scenario, so enemies from the IDM! scenario won't appear in EX's dungeons and vice versa.
- Randomizer Mode save files can be identified by the presence of "(RL)" for Randomizer (Light) and "(RF)" for Randomizer (Full) next to the save's Scenario data.
Added the ability to choose between two battle background styles in the Options menu.
- Swirl: The current battle background style.
- Simple: Battle backgrounds will be snapshots of the field at the time a battle begins with minimal changes applied.
- Increased Gigas Worm's STR.
- Increased Minotaur's susceptibility to Petrification.
- Fixed an issue with the text displayed when Minotaur's magical weakness changes.
- Battles triggered in Waking Canyon while the sunlight is fading will no longer trigger sunlight conditions in battle.
- Made Earth Elemental's transformation more likely to fail while in sunlight.
- Made Hellion less likely to skip its turn.
- Fixed an issue in which Possessed Doll wasn't losing its Endurance status under certain conditions.
- Miscellaneous changes and fixes.

I'll Defeat the Monster From the Comfort of My Bed! Power Nap Edition EX Released!

I’m happy to announce that I’ll Defeat the Monster From the Comfort of My Bed! Power Nap Edition EX has finally been released on my itch.io page! Enjoy last year’s I’ll Defeat the Monster From the Comfort of My Bed! Power Nap Edition (IDM!) further enhanced with new art, music, animations, balancing changes, and bug fixes before embarking on a new misadventure in the IDM! EX expansion!
IDM! EX expands the range of options available to the player with new skills, new equipment, new items, and a new optional playable character. It features over 50 new enemies across 5 new dungeons that are larger and more distinct than those in IDM!, adding approximately 5 hours of playtime to the base game. While EX is fairly light on story like IDM!, you can find optional scenes with Norbert, Lieselotte, and Froschkönig in each dungeon.
I’m leaving the companion guide I made for the old version of the game up for now since it’s still mostly accurate to the original IDM! scenario. In the future I plan to update the guide to reflect the changes to IDM! as well as add maps for the new dungeons, data on all of the new enemies, and listings for items, equipment, and so on.
I’ll Defeat the Monster From the Comfort of My Bed! Power Nap Edition EX is on sale now for just $5.99. The entirety of the IDM! scenario is also available as a free demo, available on my itch.io page as well as here on RMN!

Release Date + Price Announcement!
I’m happy to announce that I’ll Defeat the Monster from the Comfort of My Bed! Power Nap Edition EX will release on October 25th for $5.99 on my itch.io page! When the game goes live, I'll update IDM!'s page with the new release.
As stated in the project’s announcement post, the original IDM! scenario will both be included in the full game and made available as a free demo for EX. While IDM! is mostly the same as before, I’ve replaced all of the battle animations and music as well as most of the sounds and made various adjustments to enemies, dungeons, and items. Because there are a lot of under-the-hood differences between the old and new versions of IDM!, saves from the old version aren’t compatible with the new. However, you will be able to carry saves from the EX demo into the full game.
Drifting Fortress is a sprawling dungeon full of traps and hazards. Relics that can weaken the dungeon’s minibosses are hidden throughout.
Similar to the original scenario, EX gives you a selection of dungeons you can tackle in any order. This time there are four dungeons available at the outset and each dungeon is longer, more elaborate, and more varied compared to those in IDM!. You’ll encounter over 50 new enemies with a wide variety of abilities and mechanics and find over 20 new pieces of gear and several new skills with which to fight them. You may even find a new party member…
Norbert’s new Alacrity skill, which lets him change equipment without consuming his turn, is available in Erika’s Shop in IDM! and the Gervasburg item shop inEX.
While EX’s new scenario is fairly light on story, you’ll occasionally find symbols on the ground that, when stepped on, will trigger a conversation between the characters. It’s somewhat similar to how you can trigger conversations with Lieselotte after clearing dungeons in IDM!.
I’ve also added some new quality of life features. Using Analyze Scrolls on an enemy will now give you some information about its abilities and behavior; additionally, you can view data on any monsters you’ve scanned from the main menu. Also, you can now quickly use Medicinal Herbs or Crystal Fragments to quickly top off of your party’s HP or MP, respectively, after battles and keep moving. The item that activates this feature is available in Gervasburg’s item shop in both the IDM! and EX scenarios. Lastly, there’s now an adjustable delay between actions in battle in case you find the default battle speed too fast and you can toggle whether to add a confirmation step after deciding upon all party members’ actions.
This project was a ton of work and took a lot longer to make than anticipated, but I’m glad I saw it through and I’m happy it’s finally ready for release. I estimate that playing through both the IDM! And EX scenarios will take you around 7 hours. Remember: October 25th! $5.99! My itch.io!

I’m planning for a release sometime in October; I’ll make another post providing the exact release date as well as more details on gameplay, features, and so on in the near future.

Expansion + Update Announcement!
Before I begin, I'd like to thank everyone who nominated and voted for IDM! in the Best Game Title award in the 2022 Misaos! It means a lot.
I’m happy to introduce my first commercial project, a paid expansion to IDM! tentatively titled I’ll Defeat the Monster From the Comfort of My Bed! Power Nap Edition EX.
In IDM! EX, Lieselotte receives a letter claiming she has won an award for her service to Gervasburg and needs only speak a series of magicked words to claim her prize, a legendary robe that acts as a sleep aid! However, before an incredulous Norbert can utter a word of protest, he, Lieselotte, and Froschkönig are whisked away to a strange place. Unsure of what’s going on or who’s behind it, the three have little choice but to explore their new surroundings to get to the bottom of it.
The IDM! EX scenario adds five new dungeons that are longer and more challenging than those in the original IDM! scenario, each made in a different style and playable in any order. Within them are approximately 50 new enemies with many new abilities and mechanics. Lieselotte will also join Norbert and Froschkönig for the whole quest this time around in addition to a new, optional playable character.
In Dreaming Mountain, a roulette of various effects appears after each battle. Try to land on a beneficial one!
As you progress you’ll unlock new abilities for each character as well as new equipment options. In particular, I’ve expanded upon the mechanic of Norbert and Froschkönig sharing an MP bar with new ways to spend, save, and regain MP. As with IDM!, the new equipment in EX will expand your character build options instead of simply having better stats than existing gear.
All of the artwork from IDM! has been replaced with new art made by Muffy and Cakey. They’ve done a great job of both remaking the old art and creating new things. All of the old battle animations have been replaced as well. In addition to making many new icons for EX, I've also tweaked or remade most of the (admittedly rough-looking) existing ones.
A before-and-after of some of the remade status icons.
While IDM! will be included with EX, the IDM! scenario will remain free and be repositioned as a demo. I’ll also be updating the current version of IDM! at the time of EX’s release for compatibility and with some changes and additions, such as adding more character animation to the cutscenes, a new skill for Norbert that allows him to change equipment mid-battle without losing momentum, and giving some of the enemies more interesting abilities to bring them closer to the new enemies in EX. All of the aforementioned balancing changes to existing elements, graphical changes, etc., will also be included in this new version.
I’ll Defeat the Monster From the Comfort of My Bed! Power Nap Edition EX is currently around 70% complete. Price and release date TBA.

Update 1.0.2
- Fixes an issue in which some characters' sprites would become transparent.
I must've done this when I first began making the map images for the guide. I ultimately used a different method to hide the characters and must've forgotten to revert the other when I was finished. I apologize for not catching it.
The update is available here on RMN and on itch.io.

Update 1.0.1 + I'll Defeat the Monster With the Help of This Guide!
I've released a minor update to IDM! PNE with a few fixes and balance changes. Here are the patch notes:
1.0.1:
- Changed instances of "attack speed" to "action speed".
- Raised the MP cost of Recover to 30 MP.
- Removed action speed penalty from Inferno, Icicle Rain, Tornado, and Quake.
- Made an addition to Bulwark's description noting its increased action speed.
- Fixed an issue in which Chill status wasn't lowering some of bosses' ailment resistances.
- Fixed a passage issue with Lieselotte's home.
- Fixed an issue with Analyze Scroll's behavior when used on Mimic.
- Corrected inaccuracies in certain enemies' Analyze Scroll information.
I've also uploaded a PDF that contains various information related to the game, such as maps and enemy behaviors, and elucidates some of the game's more obscure aspects. I guess it isn't a guide in the sense that it doesn't explicitly tell you, "Go here, do this, use this strategy," but I think a guide like that would run counter to what I wanted to do with this game. It should be a helpful companion nonetheless.
You can find both here on RMN and on my itch.io page.
