Sacred Reviews:

Intro

"The World Record Poop I Saw At Target" is a short comedy game developed by Vetticon71 using RPG Maker 2003 that was created for the Boulevard of Broken 2K3 Dreams event. An event meant to be a throwback to the old days of game making as such a lot of the games created are tied into themes like your first project or memes. As such this game is a pretty weird journey that tends to feel pretty random like "Yoshi Goes to Tesco" by Frogge.

Story
Summary
You play as Sausage, a guy that loves stuffy-stuff, and has decided to go to Target in order to get more stuffy-stuff. And along the way you'll run into bill collectors, drive a tank, crush people with your tank like the Chinese did in 1989 in Tiananmen Square, collect keys, and battle a massive turd capable of granting you enlightenment.

Comedy

If you read the summary section before this one then it should be fairly obvious that this game largely relies on random humor.

After all, who would ever predict that if you enter a random house looking for your friend you'd run into a room full of chickens worshipping Satan. Outside of the absolutely random nature of certain events in this game it also tries to get a laugh out of people using swear words when either you or an enemy manages to avoid an attack.

A gag that would have worked a lot better in my opinion if the game cycled through a few different swears instead of just having the characters drop a F bomb every single time. I know the best jokes come in threes, but with the default miss rate your going to see this happen about a dozen times before completing this game.

Greatest Strength/Weakness

Since this is a comedy game it's pretty obvious what it's greatest strength and weakness are going to be. Your either going to love this game for it's swearing and random comedy or your going to find yourself hating this game to a certain extent for it's random comedy and swearing. As such this game can turn into a bad experience pretty quickly if the jokes don't appeal to you. So only seek this game out if you think walking out of a hose and running into a trio of bill collectors after you for debts dating back to the 90s is funny to you.

Gameplay

The game deploys the default combat system that comes with RPG Maker 2003 which is bit of a painful throwback in my opinion. This is because the default battle speed is rather slow which makes combat a lot more tedious than it needs to be. An issue enhanced by just how much health the enemies having in this game. In order to defeat the tax collectors you'll have to hit each of them four times which means you'll need to use the basic attack command 12 times in order to complete your first battle. And while the main character does have access to a fire spell it does less damage to enemies than your standard attack. So there is no reason to ever use it.

Graphics

Graphically the game appears to rely heavily on the RTP for the most part, but considering this is game is part of an event meant to celebrate RPG Maker 2003 that isn't much of a surprise in my opinion. At the same time it does mean this game is pretty boring to look at if you've played a lot of RPG Maker 2003 games over the years that have utilized the RTP for the engine.

Though at least the game does include a few original assets. Albeit one of them is literally shit. So I suppose it's a toss up if the custom assets are a turd or not.

Sound

On the sound side of things the game utilizes midi versions of several songs. One of the most obvious being Low Rider by War. Though finding it in the game's music and sound files is proving difficult since the game includes a lot of songs that weren't used. And some are sorted by artist and then song name while others are sorted entirely by song name.

Conclusion

In my opinion this game is pretty boring, but I'll admit I'm not the biggest fan of random lol humor. I never really got the point of people running into buildings and screaming stuff like "Waffles of Doom" and whatnot. So this game was always going to be a pass in my case, but if you enjoy this sort of stuff than feel free to venture forth and beat the crap out of tax collectors and little children to get your health back. Though my distaste for this game on sheer principle makes me hesitant to assign a score to this project. After all, I don't think I could offer a particularly objective overall score.

Great review! Honestly i can agree with alot of the points you made, the game is like quarter baked at best so its naturally a bit shit, Maybe someday ill revisit it to remake it in an RPG Maker im more familiar with and make it better with the points in your review taken in mind. Thanks for playing!
EDIT: Forgot to add this, but the music from what i recall is made up of midis of songs by System of a down, Korn, Metallica, Incubus, Slipknot and more, the reason theres so many in the files is just cause i had no clue what to use, so i just let myself have anything on hand to not go back and forth through my oddly huge collection.
