Sacred Reviews: Stray Adventure

"Stray Adventure" is a short game developed by Tahnryu using RPG Maker 2003 that was created for the Boulevard of Broken 2k3 Dreams. An event that at the time of writing is still active and involves creating casual games like it's 2004 all over again. A time that feels like a lifetime ago considering it was before I had graduated high school and was delivering news papers in a bid to earn some cash before I could get a part-time job. A time when Rosette was still young and was the only doge in my parent's humble abode.

At any rate this game where you play as a dog named after the guardian of the underworld takes around ten minutes or so to complete if you do all of the quests. Albeit you can skip the first one and I imagine some people would even miss it since the most obvious thing to do after gaining control of Cerberus would be to chase after your owner. After all, were a good boy and can't leave her to fend for herself in this world filled with dangerous monsters and bandits/pirates. So it's time to set off on adventure and kill some bad guys by merely interacting with them. Though if the game's dialogue is anything to go by our efforts to save our mistress involve leaving our enemies torn to shreds in a display so brutal it might even be comedic in the right context.

Gif comes from a scene from Love, Death & Robots volume 3 titled Mason's Rats.

After all, excessive overkill can be funny if you frame it right. Like when ED-209 malfunctions and expends hundreds of rounds of ammunition killing one of the executives at the start of the first "RoboCop" movie. At any rate our good boy is so brutal that even the hero is afraid of meeting him after seeing the aftermath of our rescue.

As for the game's graphics and audio. They come entirely from the RTP so I don't have that much to say about them. After all, if you've played enough old RPG maker 2003 games you've probably experienced the default assets enough to know what your in for.

As for how I'd rate this game. I think the developer gives a pretty fair warning for what your in for in the game's summary page.

Tahnryu
Only play this “masterpiece” if you are extremely bored and/or if you really love the 2k3 RTP and absolutely must play every game made with it.

Though I suppose a slight tweak I'd make to Tahnryu's is that this is just another game checked off my list for game's on this site in general. As for why the score is so generous if this game has so little to offer. Well this is an entry in a pretty non-serious event. So I figured I could be generous with my score. After all, while this game does meet the requirements for one or two achievements. It lacks the necessary comedic flair to bring it all home in my opinion.

Thank you, for wasting your time on my game and also writing a review. :3
It's true, it was made to get some of the basic achievements, which also restricted me a bit. This also was my first 2k3 project since...a long time.
Anyways, thank you, again.
