Well, tomorrow will be the end of my month-long period of abstention from this game. The first task will be to finish all the character sprites. I planned for 24, but I think there may be even more characters than that.
Which brings up a question. My original plan, as you may know if you've played one of the alphas, was to have characters' identities generated randomly for each game, picking a random name and face basically. But, is this kind of pointless? It was intended to be an experiment in gender/race roles, as any character could wind up with any face, but that fact may not really shine in this game, considering nothing else about their behavior would be randomized. And it might only make the characters less memorable and distinguishable. WHAT DO YOU THINK?
Following this, I plan to sprite and program all the weapons and talents.
I personally would stick to just a single sprite for a certain character. Sure it is an interesting take on randomization, but it sounds, like you said, pointless and really doesn't contribute much. It'd be weird, I don't know. ANYWAY, HAVE FUN, YOU
