The Finishing Touches - January 24, 2010

I am, as of last night, 100% through everything in this game! Just replaying through to spot & kill any possible glitches or whatnot.

I've gone through & decided to make the game slightly less linear in ways - you can go pretty much anywhere at any time once you're free to roam the world, but the main storyline events still will trigger in the proper order. So.. be gutsy! Explore places before you're supposed to. Grab treasures early! None of it should bug up.. well until you get yourself into a battle you can't win or escape. ^_^

But yeah. Pretty much just playtesting now. Full game up within a few days.

Progress through late 1/16/2010

I'm just about to start on the final continent in the game now. That entails three dungeons and two towns as far as maps go.

I've revamped the icons in the game. Chose a different icon set because of issues I was having with the first one. As a result, items have improved icons and the weapons/armor all have (IMO) far better icons.

I also made it so that late in the game the player can choose to buy gemstones at a specific shop instead of searching through the world for them if he/she wishes. It comes at a cost, though.

I won't put a timeline as far as having the game done because I have plans to go in and ramp up the character development a bit before I do release the game as a whole, and it's hard saying how long that could take.

But let it be known - this game is not far from the end of production.

Progress to 1/10/2010 - feeling pretty accomplished

Finally today I have finished scripting one of the larger turns of events that I've ever done in a game. The extent to where I am in the game (Lv.36; I'm projecting the final "optimal" level of the game to be around 51), the creativity I've had at times, and the events in general, I'm feeling pretty good about.

I have four major areas left to map out, a lesser area, and two towns, and then things will be looking pretty good. After this, I plan to go into the game and randomly add some small tidbits to aid in character development (there's some, but not a whole lot, at this point in production).

12/28/2009 - Magic learning system is finished

Well, I finally put in the few hours of event work last night and finished up the magic learning. What a tedious process! All I have left to do with it is place the magic crystals and maybe think up a few weapon skills that can be learned as well. I think I'll let those come naturally though and not be taught.

Progress, 12/26/2009

Pretty much a short update on progress and changes.

As far as mapping and main events go, I've completed all the way to the end of the second continent. At this point, characters "should" be around level 21. There's only been one "real" boss battle to this point. My characters have broken 100k experience and I've just bought 20k GP worth of brand new equipment (a far cry from the first town where 250GP would buy an entire party full equipment!).

There's been a lot of towns, and a large majority of the world's towns are actually done now. That being said.. I've mapped three entire towns and two forests in the last 24 hours. I think it's time for a mapping break. Maybe next I will work on the magic in the game. I've sorely missed that aspect of RPG gameplay so far in my testing.

Despite the task of mapping getting a bit stale at times, I feel I'm doing some of the best mapping I've done in quite a long time. The task of a forested continent should be my biggest hurdle from here on out, I think. As in, squeezing in a lot of that kind of mapping without everything being just a little old.

Two behemoths of islands to complete soon.. one's entirely forested, the other entirely underground. This should be quite fun. I'm not sure where I'm going just after that but I'm sure there will be more. This thing isn't fleshed out nearly as much as I plan, just yet.
