Costume System

Back in my RPG Maker 2k3 days, I've always wanted to implement a visual equipment system to my games. I could never figure how to do it. There were too many variables to account for. At times I would get through those obstacles, but more and more popped up. I left it on the back burner for awhile.

Fast Forward to this project, I decided to revisit that idea with RPG Maker VX

I did a little research on some scripts and I find one that would have been perfect. I looked at the code and the implementation. Then, I decided not to go with it. I'm not the brightest programmer in the world and I know my limits. Touching that script is one of them.

Now, I decided to tackle the problem by simplifying the equipment system. There would be only one piece of armor to buy and it's a whole set. Weapon, helmet, chest, etc. Each set is usable by any party member and each set is different for everyone. The healer gets healer stats, the warrior get warrior type stats, etc. The only thing in common each set of armor has is the visualization. A magician suit will make you look like a magician. A knight suit will make you look like a knight.

The biggest reason I want to put in a system like this is because I want to see players use different armor sets and watch the cut scenes. It could be fun watching a dramatic scene with the main characters in animal costumes or business suits.

I'm still in the process of adding this system. However, I'm not sure I can even put it in at all. It may just go in the waste bin with all my failed ideas, but I will not give it up without a fight.

This is awesome. I tried doing that in 2k3 once, but it was a disaster.

How are you doing this... just using a different char for each outfit?
This is easy to do, you just change the character sprite on the third(?) page of the events list and set it up with variables.

I did this same thing and it works just fine.
Don't axe ALL the equipment types though... keep them in. Just have the costume based on your Body Armor.
