The Looming Spire is a project I'm very excited about. Like, WHOA excited. I've gotten quite a bit of things done in the past several months.
-Fully functional equipment menu, with about 100 different pieces of equipment. took a lot less time than I thought it would.
-Equipment with "proc" effects (effects that happen when you get hit, or when you hit an enemy).
-First dungeon completely finished, with monsters, puzzles, traps and treasure abound.
-Broke ground on the second dungeon, which is riddled with alot more puzzles and mechanics than the first.
-Worked in a very standard and generic intro to the game. It's short, and all it does is introduce the story in a very simplistic manner.
-Reworked all the damage formulas. I may come back to this.
-Reworked battles in general! Now monster stats have been adjusted, loot drops at the end of battle, etc.
-Have been creating monsters with different skill sets and methods of encounter, such as statues that come to life when you come near, zombies that crawl out of the ground, monsters that break through bridges when you cross, etc.
-Began making some custom pixel-art for this thing... it's not the greatest, but it's still kinda cool!
-Fixed lots of bugs! LOTS OF EM.
Not a complete progress log, but a general idea of what's been going on. Maybe I'll add some screens of stuff that has been developed.
Anyway, the real reason I posted this blog is this. I've done quite a bit of stuff here with this project, but I can't really acquire any feedback from screens and blog updates alone. I'd post a short demo or something, but given the nature of the game itself, a demo would negate most of the appeal the game would have as a finished product. The game is centralized around being able to explore a huge dungeoney tower full of treasure and monsters, finding items and magical things along your way to help you overcome many different obstacles and puzzles. Cutting the game down to 1/10th of the game with a demo sort of defeats what the game is all about.
Nevertheless, would anyone be interested in playing a demo containing just the first dungeon? I could even leave a big box full of all the relics/runes/items/equipment for you to sandbox with. This would allow you to swim around in the water, climb walls, smash boulders, freeze enemies, magnetically attract certain objects, and have an entire array of combat spells at your disposal.
Anyway, if there's enough interest, I'll post a short demo! If not, then I shall be patient and wait to show this game to the public. Please, post a comment, let me know if it's a good (or bad!) idea.
