Demo Released

Instead of feeling sickeningly exhausted and cranky after finishing my entry for the 4-hour game making event, I felt inspired. After all, if I could finish a (ridiculous and crappy) game in 4 hours. What could I have done in the past 6 months?! Make a demo, that's what!

What you'll find:
-crappy RTP graphics (get over it...for now)
-houses that give different amounts of candy based on CC
-bullies (a whole whopping 3 of 'em!) that dish out punishment with varying success
-two mini-games at the park, as well as a concession stand for restoring stamina
-Legendary Adventure cards to collect and trade in for prizes
-three costumes to choose from

That's about it. Please play my game and promptly break the systems in it. I'd love to know what I need to work on!

Temporary Hiatus

I'm a college student. I have finals in May. I don't have the fortitude to both work on this and study. So until May 14th, I won't be working on this enough to allow it to be in the "Production Phase".

Updates: Not much to speak of. Some tinkering with characters and some new ideas for costumes. Bully system is improved. I've got it on conditional branches so that depending of your IF stat, the bully will take different amounts of candy and ST from you. Heck, if you've got a high enough IF, they might even GIVE you candy.
I also have to side quests available that will give extra candy if their completed. There are a couple that will only be available depending on your stats.
To make up for Manny and Georgia not effecting stats with their costumes, I've made a few questions at the beginning of the game that will add and detract stats. Things like, "In this situation would you do 'A' or 'B'?"
Also, I know everyone despises RTP and face generators seem to me to be lazy. So, even though I'm a terrible artist, I'm going to try my hand at drawing something presentable. I figure, at this point, most people would prefer a semi-decent depiction of the characters and maybe some backgrounds versus the standard RTP.

Well, that's it for now. Be back in a month.

Demo

The demo I wanted to have out by the end of February isn't ready. It's almost ready though. I just need some fine tuning and tweaking. The problem now is finding the time to tweak it. It won't have a lot (if any) story or plot and I don't have any Halloween-y graphics added yet. However, two mini-games are available to play and there is music. New goal: before spring break. Because absolutely NOTHING will get done that week. I can assure everyone of that.

Mini-games and Music

I made one other mini-game besides the maze and I have a third in development right now. The mini-game I just got up and running entails picking a switch and seeing if you get candy. Careful though, there's a chance that you'll lose candy as well!
I also found a good place that offers the use of it's music for free. If anyone's interesting in checking it out themselves it's here: http://incompetech.com/
Also, I've had to come to a rather sad decision. Due to the fact that I can't script and everything I've done in this game is through eventing, I've made it so that you only play as Rob. However, I think as compensation, I'll try creating a few more costumes for the player to choose from. As default, Manny's costume is going to be a pirate and Georgia will be a devil!
As of now, Rob's three costume choices are: ninja, pilot, vampire.
Also, I originally had each house giving out like...30 pieces of candy. That's just retarded and I'm fixing it. I've also just begun to toy around with the CC stat. By using variables and a handful of conditional branches I've gotten one house (my test dummy) to give out either 20, 30 or 40 (will be changed to 2, 3 or 4) pieces of candy depending on the CC stat.
I'll be posting some more pictures when I finally get around to adding some actual Halloween graphics.

Slow Going

I added in the time element. Right now it's 5 minutes consumed per house and 10 minutes for entering a street. However, that's about all the work I've really done. Fortunately, I know most of what I will do and the script is written (with some fine tuning and tweaking needed), so I only have to apply my concepts. I hope to have the game mostly playable with the storyline intact by the end of February. Well, we'll see how that goes.

A Rough Beginning

I've figured out how to set up a system for trick-or-treating through events but the product of this is a whole lot of mess. So, I'm remaking maps, making them pretty, and redoing most of the events. I'm also trying to set a number to the candy goal. I'm thinking 5,000 pieces of candy to be collected in 6 hours of time. Yes, there's a time limit. Each action (ie. visiting a house or playing a game) will cost 5 minutes or so.
I'm still looking for better tilesets and I haven't added any music yet but the music can come later.
