Progress Report

Story Writing is Complete!

So it's been a long time, but I finally finished writing the story for Malice Compact. I've started the storylines for the next four games a while ago, and I've tried tying together things as best as I could.

What started out (a loooooong time ago) as a game where you could goof around and wander around an RPG Maker version of my old school has turned into a story with a much bigger struggle and a bunch of cool philosophical things to think about!

There are seven chapters - Innocence, Ignorance, Ambivalence, Resistance, Belligerence, Malevolence, and Ascendance. It's not much to go off of, but I can't reveal what Z is!

Combat System (and Demo on the Way!)

It's really nothing too mind-blowing, at least not to everyone else. I grew up with RPG Maker 2000, and I've been using it ever since I was a little kid, and fully making the jump to Rm2k3 with one of my most beloved projects was a real experience.

There's still a lot to fix up before I release a demo, but since these (partially) imaginary characters have grown on me so much, I want to make sure I'm doing a good job telling a story and developing personalities. Again, the first chapter isn't much to get excited about, as it is very linear and still during more normal times in the game, but it's coming!

In the meantime, check out the combat!

The Z Chronicles

This game has come a long way from its humble origins in 2009. I have switched engines, changed the art style countless times, composed over an hour's worth of music, made almost all of the graphics myself, and I've written out the story for five games in the Z Chronicles (and yes, it moves beyond the school setting... way beyond).

It's kind of hard to belief, but after five years I've finally finished the first of seven chapters in the game! What a milestone! In the meantime, here's the intro to the game for you all to enjoy!

Back from the Dead!

I haven't touched this game in a long time, but got re-inspired after going through an old pseudo-manual I wrote three years ago. So much was broken with the game that I decided to start almost completely from scratch - I kept most of the maps, and stored them so I could put them in their respective chapters in the story. I also kept all my artwork, and database editor entries.

I've begun repairing and piecing the game back together, bit by bit - writing a script finally, composing my own original music, and I've started reworking the "Select a Class" segment. Also, I'm trying to make a new in-game menu (when you press "Escape") - I'm messing around with common events and key input processing to get a pause menu that lets you either go to the built-in menu, or to a visual inventory system that runs off of Fork Conditions and Show Pictures, and will hopefully come out looking somewhat like an inventory from Daggerfall.

Anyway, that's what I'm up to! Thanks to those of you still checking up on this!

Miscellaneous

Hang on... plus: "Behind the Scenes - Rebuilding the Game"

I've been away from my "gaming" computer for a while, so progress will resume on the weekend.

While I'm away though, I ought to let you all know that I started this game back on January 1st of 2009. Yup, this game has been in progress for over 2 years! Granted I did take a long break from it, as it was on my mom's old Windows 95. After manually moving all of the files of the game, by floppy disk, to a newer computer, and then onto my flash drive, I was able to work on it on a much better PC. However, there was some error with some files, so a lot of events in the game were corrupted, and everything in the "Database Editor" thing was restored to default. So I have been in the process of restoring the game to it's original functionality, whilst adding tons of new things - which is why progress isn't too fast right now.

I have also been running into problems with the levels. I was testing the functionality of the Bathroom Pass, so I got it from Max (this is in-game), talked to the teacher, gave him the Pass and left the room, and walked to the Main Hall. The error occurs whenever I try to enter any room in the Main Hall (the Library, Boy's Room, Hallway to 7th-8th grade classes. As soon as I enter a room, my character is stuck. I can turn, but that's it. I've looked into the Chipset, and the event before that confirms if you want to enter the room, and everything checks out... stay tuned, I'll be looking into it.

Cheers! Or whatever Europeans say at the end of their posts! :D
