Yeah, this map is pretty bare, and done in the map editor at zoom level 2 rather than stitching together actual in-game screenshots, but, Darigaaz, there I go with my symmetrical mapping again!
Er, I mean, I guess, as far as the lockers at the entrance are concerned, that configuration might be okay. Not sure what to do with the walls here. Bells and/or clocks can only be so ubiquitous. That, and I've not found a proper bell configuration yet!

Some ideas : classroom indications on the wall, notices; trashcans, eventually a few plants on the floor, well?
The way this is configured kinda messes with a notice board, as that would, in theory, be along the wall where the staircases are at. Trashcans? Well, yeah, if I can find something that's suitable, then I can scatter them around. Plants on the floor, though? That's outside any school experience I've had!
*Edit: Indicating which classroom belongs to which teacher does sound like something I want to do, but the perspective of this map messes up on this for the same reasons it messes up the notice board.

The top stair thing needs to be moved down a tile ( two if this is 16*16 ). Right now it is not touching the wall. Same goes for the wood things, I think.
Now it has the same layout as in my game ^_^ I think it looks more school-like. A couple of suggestions:
As chana said, classroom indicators would really help it look like a school. They wouldn't be hard to sprite at all, just a small sign that sticks out from the wall next to each classroom door. Japanese classes are 1-A, 1-B etc. for first year classes up to 3-A, 3-B etc. for third year (actually, is this a high school or junior high school?)
The second thing is to make the floor wooden instead of tiles. I assume there are wooden floorboards in vx ace? Make the locker area tiled because, as I said, that area students wear their outdoor shoes and then change.
Anyway, I think it's getting better!

I... kinda liked the first version better, to be honest! Though, I dunno, I suppose I'll play around with this some more, updating this picture with flavor tiles, NPCs, as well as some of these suggestions.
I think it all really depends on what you're going for. If you prefer your first version and don't care about making it look much like a real school, then by all means go for it. It's a magic girl fantasy game so it doesn't exactly have to be realistic!

My first version was loosely based on my own high school, so there is that. Now, if you said "looks like a real Japanese school" (stress mine), you might have had a point. Which is a point you practically dismissed yourself with:

Still, I should play with this, just to see if I can get this "right".
I meant Japanese school ^_^ And no, I'm not going to start dictating to you how you should design your own map, hence why I said that. But if it were me, I would want to make it look as much like a Japanese school as possible.
Anyway, keep posting your screenshots, I'm interested to see what you come up with next.

Image updated!
Well, the baskets are our trashcans for the moment. I do have a plan for the bells, but it involves stacking an event underneath the buckler, and I'm avoiding event placement at the moment. The floor tiles at the entrance were obviously changed, with the smudge marks (if you can even see them) indicative of traffic. Might want to place more, or outright replace some of the cracks with smudge marks, at some point.
I think I'm liking this better, though. I might end up flipping a coin to see which one I actually use!
