Every year, the OHR community holds a contest honoring the one thing the OHRRPGCE was developed for: making RPGs, of course. Not only does this give people a chance give their games some notoriety, it also gives them a chance to request features to be added to the engine, or request that a certain bug will take priority and be fixed (sometimes the devs can get a bit lazy, and this is our chance to get them into gear!), but best and most importantly in my opinion, it gives people the motivation to WORK ON THEIR DAMN GAMES. The OHR community is littered with half-finished, half-assed games that come to a disappointing end before the game is even finished. There have been a few cases of some games with real promise that have never been finished, and probably never will be. I've decided that I will not let FDL become one of those games. I've been concerning myself with my lack of game-making motivation, and have come up with a few ideas to get myself going again.
Firstly, I've decided to scale down the size of the project. If I'm ever going to finish a game, I shouldn't start with a forty hour long epic adventure. The plans I currently have will make the game long enough, possibly averaging out from fifteen to twenty hours long. A good RPG doesn't need to be very long, it needs to be fun and engaging. Secondly, choosing to customize a good portion of the in-game functions started to become overwhelming. It's probably better to use the built-in functions of the game engine when you don't have to make them yourself.
