Progress Report

Nice one year vacation, now back to work

It's been an incredibly busy year for me so I set both my projects to hiatus mode, these being both this game and also version 2.0.0 for the original game, (progress for that is not going well at all as a quick spoiler).

When I decided to continue my progress for Shadowsong 2 about a month ago, I was so overwhelmed by the progress I had already made that it completely put me off continuing. Now I've had some time to study what I've already made, remember what I planned on doing and begin my work again, I'm glad to say that the progress for this is now officially back.
To sum up what I've already done, as I believe I tried to keep that a "well" guarded secret, this game is generally a dungeon exploration game. Any of you play Legend of Zelda? What am I saying, of course you did. It's sort of like that except with shorter dungeons and a more terrible overall game.

I only actually have 4 dungeons left to build out of about 12, so I can actually say the game may only take 3-4 months to finish. It would be great to finally tick this project off my list of things to do.

I have a little handbook of my progress of this game, and as I was reading through it again there are quite a few pages of a DLC pack called "Orion's Awakening", it's like a prequel to the game. From what I've read of my notes, it, too, sounds like a small handful of a project, and I'm not definitely going to make it. It's just highly likely, haha.

Anyway, have a nice week and I'll try to keep you in the loop!

Need help from good scripters

Ill be the first to admit that I'm no good at scripting. Heck, I'm not that great at making rpg maker games, so therefore I'll need some help from some people who are more advanced than me. I have a few features I'd like to add to Shadowsong 2 that I am unable to do myself, so if you're interested in helping me please pm me or reply in this form.

1: Percentages

One feature I'd like to have is a 'statistics' option in the menu. I can put the option into the menu without a problem, and can even get a list of statistics in this field. The only problem I have is actually getting the statistics themselves. What I mean is, this is how I sort of want this column to look:

Main story ... x% complete
Side quests... Y% complete

What I don't know is how I can get the percentages to actually be there and be accurate to what the player has achieved. For example, if the player has completed, let's say 2 out of 50 side quests, how could I get the statistic to read, "side quests... 4%"

On the same note, how can I get "counters"? By this i mean... Let's say you had a quest to kill 5 wolves. For every wolf you kill, 1 is added to a counter. When the counter has a total of 5 wolves killed, the switch is turned off and the quest is complete. How do I get these number values?

2: Not quite a feature for the game, just something that would require someone who knows how to edit the "scene menu" script. PM me if you think you can help and I'll tell you what it is.
---------------

So there you go. As you can tell, I am quite a noob at general game editing. If you can help me out, even though this is all probably pretty embarrassingly basic stuff, please let me kow so you can help me out. Thanks,

Announcement

See You In a Few Months

So this will be my last blog update for a few months, (thank god), so consider this more of a "see you soon" blog. If I'm honest, I feel like the progress of this game so far has ended up a little bit like this;

If you don't know what I'm getting at, I mean that so far I think it's all going well, but looking back at both the earlier stages of the game and also some feedback from my testers, I end up face first in the snow.
Well, thanks for reading this and giving feedback. Enjoy the .gif and have a good few months,

To start this, I should probably update on the faulty computer situation. I've still been running in free trial mode this whole time because my laptop has been down at a repair shop for a few weeks. It turns out, however, that she's completely useless now; something about burning out a graphics chip or something.
But, the free trial version that I'm running on at the moment only has a couple days left, so I thought I' update on everything I've achieved in that time.

  • Roughly ten extra side quests added
  • Distortion world almost complete, (it will take some time, I want it to be as impressive as possible)
  • Edited the intro and first twenty minutes of the game, (I intend to completely rewrite this time, however, as I hate it.)
  • Designed probably twenty maps, redesigned a few shoddy ones.
  • Overall, increased the total project completion by about 2%

Once I get my own computer back, I intend to work on both this game and also a new thing I'm working on called Death Note. It will be a visual novel and should hopefully be a better work than Shadowsong 2 once it's complete. You can say as much as you want that it's no good juggling projects, but you're not juggling if you can hold one project firmly in each hand. -Shill's inspirational quotes, 2012.
All in all, I feel I've worked my arse off these last few days, so I think until I get my laptop I'll put this is hiatus status, though if you're a tester I will still need your input. Thanks, have a great week,

Test the Game and Help me Out

I know I said that I wouldn't post here until I got my computer back, but recently I've been too paranoid about how people will react to the game. So, I'm asking if they're any testers out there who are willing to help me out and give feedback on what's already been produced. The only thing I can offer back is my thanks and a place in the end-game credits, but I'd definitely appreciate if any testers stepped forward. PM me or post here :) Thanks, have a great week,

Well... Bollocks.

In my last blog post I mentioned that I'm only running on one computer as my laptop commited suicide. To update, now even that computer has completly overheated and will refuse to turn on. My laptop is dead and there's no chance of repairing it, so it looks like I'll need to buy a new one. I'm not sure on the status of the other computer but for now I can't make any progress on either Death Note or Shadowsong, but on the bright side once everythings renewed then I'll have 2 more free trials to get through before I'll need to buy another full version. I won't make any more blog updates until I can get a computer to work on, so have a nice weekend and good luck for your nation at the Olympics.

Miscellaneous

Death Note on RPG Maker

If you've seen my profile, you might know that I'm currently developing a Death Note game for Rpg Maker XP. I'll admit that progress on that is slow as I'm currently trying to finish off Shadowsong 2, but now I think I'll give it the spotlight for a bit; just long enough until I can get some decent screenshots and submit the game onto RMN. So, this may mean that the time before I can finish Shadowsong will be extended. Also, if anyone is interested in testing Shadowsong 2 when the initial raw version is finished, message me or simply post on here to let me know. The more the merrier. Have a nice week and good luck to your nation in the olympics this year. (Team GB all the way.)

Probably going into Hiatus status

Only yesterday, my laptop completly broke and now I can't turn it on. Because of this, the only ability to use RMXP will be on a different computer of mine. This means that, considering it'll probably take more than a month before I can get a new laptop, I will most likely have to put Shadowsong 2 into Hiatus status because the only access I have to RMXP will be through the 30 day trial on the substitute computer, which is already down to about 18 days left.
The only progress I've made in the last 2 days is editing the "distortion world" map. This isn't due to laziness, (well, maybe) but the fact that it's a 500x500 map and I want to get the most out of it, considering my fondness for it.
I hope you had a nice weekend and enjoy the rest of the week,

Shadowsong 2 Suggestions and Requests

I think I've finally decided on a name for my game reviews website. I've started the website and added a few things, but I'm not releasing the details of it yet because it's not ready for people to see.

In terms of Shadowsong 2, would anyone like to see a "New Game +" feature added? So once you finish the storyline, you can play it again but with everything at a higher level. If you have any other suggestions regarding Shadowsong 2, or would like a demo version of the game, please leave a reply below! Thanks, have a nice weekend.

In New Game + mode, I was thinking of adding various add-ons to maybe reveal more about Shadowsong 3 and also a fourth class that you can choose Orion to be, (though I'll need to make a poll for that.) Apart from that, the storuy will be generally the same.

Shouldn't be too long now...

I keep saying every time I update the blog that I keep making the game longer. This is true, but I think that the story is finally coming together now. Now that the update for Shadowsong 1 is all done, I can get to work on PoI again. I know I'll end up needing to make another update for Shadowsong 1 considering I forgot to remap a few things when I test ran the update, but I'm not going to focus too much on that for maybe a week or two. My primary goal at the moment is to finish PoI, and considering I mainly play RPG Maker as a source of fun rather than work, I should be able to get quite a bit done whenever I'm bored. Hopefully the first demo version I'll ever put out will be in perhaps two or three months in the best case scenario.
The website is still being updated every once in a while, and is free to edit pages to anyone in case you feel like helping out. Have a nice weekend,
