You'll unlock them during the end game. Don't worry, you can't miss them. ;)
So now I beat the game and have all souls.

It really is a great game, a shame though that more than half the party members were useless to me.
I came across this game purely by chance while watching one of the Touhou beat 'em ups on YouTube and I have to admit to being highly impressed with it. Being way too old and slow now to play the bullet shooters, and even struggling with the Street Fighter clones, this was a great way for me to enjoy the characters, music, and settings for a series I've grown to love, so kudos for that.

About the only things I would change myself - call them suggestions if you will - would be to make Marisa a lot more magic orientated because she's hopeless in melee once her spell points are used up; almost the antithesis of any of the brawlers, especially 12.3 (Sanae is far more useful once you get her... heh, after I realised you can equip her and the others with the same items as your main three that is). I was kind of disappointed not to be able to rush across the screen on her broomstick mowing everything down as well. (^_^;)

On the subject of the other girls, being able to use the ones you found straight off the bat after you finish the game on Normal would provide a lot more incentive to replay the game. This is particularly true for the later girls, such as Youmu, Suika & Yukari, who barely have the Heaven section left to play. Obviously, you'd still have to start with Reimu as the story is based around her, but allowing the player to choose the rest would be great (truthfully, I just want to play Suika, the 'drunken spaz', right from the start).

Ah, and you should really give the player an option to quit after you obtain all 6 souls on the Youkai Reunion stages too, rather than forcing them to die on purpose to get out of it. Some kind of item reward for surviving so many levels of the Infinite sections would also be nice, rather than it merely continuing until it's impossible to win. (*_*)

Other than that, I have no complaints at all as regards the game itself. Seriously, if only commercial PC software was as stable, fun, and enthralling to play, I might actually start buying it again.

ETA: Where exactly did you get the sprite for Flandre from, since I don't believe she's been in any of the beat 'em ups!? (^_^)
Thank you sasamisa.

I came across this game purely by chance
As most of the people who played this game. :D

I won't change anything in the game since I can't afford it but suggestions and thoughts on your work are always valuable to a game designer.

The sprite for Flandre is from Mystical Chain (and the fairies too).
So it is! I swear, Flandre is the most desired character to be added to the brawlers, you know, yet even the latest one doesn't feature her, or Remilia either for that matter (she just quietly sips tea in the background).

Getting back to your game though, you can be sure I'll be keeping an eye out for any future releases from now on, even if it does take you a couple of years until your next work. I can certainly understand you not having the time for any further modification as well, having run quite a large site myself and providing most of the coding. (*_*)

In any event, as someone once said to me about Final Fantasy Tactics, there will always be characters, moves, or items that are more useful than others. Nearly all the time you end up relying on one safe move or another just to remove the frustration from play. I mean, Marisa's Typhoon Spark & Love Beam Festival combined will clear an entire screen full of enemies no matter what they are, yet against the bosses, Sakuya's Rising Spirit, Deadly Kunai & Lightning Balls are king, so I suppose it depends on the situation.

Keep up the good work anyway, and thanks again for making my year considerably less mediocre. (=^_^=)
When I saw the trailer and screenshots I thought it was gonna be boring and childish BUT after awhile of thinking I decided to try it and see what was all the fuss about so I downloaded the game several days ago and finally was able to play it today OMG It's so awesome I got hooked once the tutorial started plus playing with a controller makes it more entertaining like a real video game console THE MUSIC IS ONE OF THE BEST FEATURES OF THE GAME sadly I can't play it all the time because I'm currently playing other games as well regardless I'm still looking forward to finish this gem :)
I stumbled onto this game when I was looking for games to do LPs in for my youtube channel.

Would you mind if I made a Let's Play out of this game?
gonna try this out later!! it looks like its lots of fun! :o
A Touhou game that doesn't suck and is fanmade. :D

how do I open it

You must download winrar, or some sort program that can open .zip files.

Any plans for releasing the scripts source code?
The game isn't encrypted, so as long as you have RM VX you can see it.
It's quite a mess though.
Hello :) I found this game because I love Touhou Fangames and I hope you can appreciate some feedback.

My main problem with the game is that it feels really unsatisfying to attack and kill enemies, especially at the beginning. I mean, there's a sound, a red flash and a slight flinch animation, but somehow that's not enough. Maybe there should be some explosion particles on death and some other flashy things when you hit the enemies? Idk, but you should definitely check out other games from this genre. It's my only problem. It just doesn't feel satisfying to kill stuff in a game about killing stuff :P ... i just don't feel like im doing much damage
Yeah, I see what you're talking about. There's a lack of impact when you're hitting/killing things.
I didn't think it was that problematic though.

It's too late for this game but I'll keep your feedback in mind for my future projects.
I still find it hard to believe this game isn't a lot more popular, you know... I mean, I've been playing it for months now and yet continue to find better ways to use the girls, items & skills to defeat the monsters - it just has so much replayablility! Oh, I haven't quite finished it on Lunatic without a single death yet (down to only 18 hours though), but the first two difficulty levels for sure. Like I told my brother just the other week, it's everything the Valis games should have been. (=^_^=)

One quick question: does the Infinite Wave section of Youkai Reunion really go on forever? I managed to get to level 70 odd by blasting everything over and over with Marisa's Typhoon Spark on Lunatic and only died because I wasn't paying attention (everything at that level kills you instantly with a single attack). Previously, I got to level 50 something using Reimu with a load of physical & fire resistance on Normal, which pretty much makes her invincible, but quit because it was getting late and the money had already maxed out at 9999 (was this intentional!?).

Incidentally, I've sort of changed my stance on Marisa being the weaker of the three girls to Sakuya, who unfortunately has a lot of very unusable skills compared to the others. Oh, don't get me wrong, in a boss fight she rocks (I managed to finish off both Tenshi & Iku in 30 seconds one game), but against a screenful of enemies, there isn't a whole lot she can do. Cursed Dagger should have always stunned the enemy, Shadow Paradox should have attacked everything on screen like Aya's wind attack does, and if you'd made Telluric Clones a lot more like Youmu's first spellcard in IaMP, that would have made her a lot more useful in a pinch. (^_^)

As it stands, I've found the only way to have her compete with a Fantasy Seals Reimu or a Flight of the Witch Marisa is to load her up with all the most damaging equipment in the game and blast everything repeatedly with Hell Corridor or Deadly Kunai, which seems like a bit of a cop out really given that they're hardly her best skills, particularly with either of her ultimate weapons. Any thoughts on this?

Actually, that makes sense considering that I did little effort to make it more popular.
There's no website dedicated to the game or social network stuff. I didn't even put this game on english Touhou forums.
Still, the full game has been downloaded more than 12k times, which is far more than expected, so I'm not complaining. ^^

Yes it does. Here's how you can keep going on forever:
Put the three ultimate accessories on Aya and the Essence of Void. Then simply spam Piercing Gust, you don't even have to move to kill everything extremely quickly. You can also take Reimu with high AP regen and lv 10 Divine Intervention. If Aya dies, you might be able to survive long enough with Reimu for her to resurrect.

Not really, I should have put the maximum to 99999 or higher.

I agree, some of Sakuya's skills/spellcard are underwhelming, especially Blade Downfall (too random), Telluric Clones and Impending Shock (not enough range). And Deadly Kunais is too powerful.
If you like to spam Hell Corridor you should try giving Sakuya a lot of fire power. It works well in combination with Rising Spirit.
Like Dark Souls, but with anime characters - IGN
Thanks for responding again, and you can be sure I'll give that a try, despite not being very partial to Aya really. She reminds me too much of Shiho from To Heart... you know, that nosey gossip everyone had in their class, who's probably secretly a voyeur and all that (^_^;)

Actually, I did find Aya moderately useful, with only Cirno & Youmu proving extremely difficult to play with, except in certain situations. Your comment about Reimu and rapid SP regen I only cottened on to recently, but I never found much use for Divine Invention. Okay, it's not quite as useless as Marisa's Big Bang (could this be the worst skill in the entire game!) and it does give you a "cheat shield" as I call it - something the enemy get away with far too often for my taste - but it's difficult to pull off and nine times out of ten on the later levels, something will shunt you away (the pinball effect) and you end up doing little or no damage whatsoever.

You're also right about Sakuya and Hell Corridor, which is why she pretty much owns the early stages of Chaos Mode since her Nowhere weapon coupled with a load of fire-based items does insane damage and makes her totally uninterruptable into the bargain. It's not quite Impending Shock damage, which can kill all three shadow girls with just two hits with the right equipment, but it gets you past those 'hot lips' plants easy enough, or indeed anything else that is weak against fire (those damn Pacman ghosts on Youkai Mountain come to mind here - I hate those things!).

Well, that's enough blabbing from me, I'm off to try some of the other girls again, besides the usual Sanae, Remilia, Suika combinations. Before I go though, is there any chance you could tell me where the completion image comes from and who the girl in the baggy pants is? I thought it was Komachi first of all, except both she and Utsuho appear to be absent... unless one of them got turned into the watermelon, or is that one of Suika's relatives appearing as a guest star, haha! (=^_^=)

Seriously though, the reason I'm asking is I've been looking for a suitable image to get made up into a canvas poster and this one features almost all the girls I've come to appreciate because of your game. I did sort of find something similar yesterday, except it isn't anywhere near big enough to get printed out at 40 x 30 inches - any help would definitely be appreciated.
