Xear Schwartz
Main protagonist of Butterfly Remnant. A man of complete mystery, that has been cursed with the Vri'qua brand. It is unknown what his real name is so he was given one by Eson, the sole survivor of the attack on Timaraun, which means "Sheer Black" a reference to his memory being a blank slate; nothing. He mostly keeps to himself, and is pretty calm even in the most dangerous of situations though he's cold to everyone. Despite this, he protects Eson without a second thought.

Depending on which path you indirectly choose, Xear can ally himself with a different kingdom, and in doing so, earns new comrades, yet makes others hostile to him. Same goes for npcs in certain towns.

As Xear doesn't actually have any dialogue of his own, the player must choose what he will say, and in doing so alters his relations with those he encounters.

Eson Mesto
The sole survivor from the attack on Timaraun, and is the last known being from the Xilia race. Timaraun was attacked, because the lord of Novran, had ordered for her to be captured, and be left to an unknown fate. She wishes to go with Xear, as she no longer has a place to return to. Eson is a cheerful girl most of the time, and tends to put aside the more serious issues for later.

Karme E'eotem
A member of the ancient Dwarven clan, that have been exiled to the harsh Sinner's Isle. They are similar to Taulans, but are able to wield the largest of weapons with ease.
