Progress Report

Great news!

I have some very good news for fans of RaS. I've been working on converting the game from Ace to MV. The main reason being, I thought it might fix the lag issues players were having. After a couple of weeks of work I've been playtesting, and I think I have resolved the issue. I've got a 7 year old computer myself, and I've had no issues, so I think the problem is fixed. What this means is that I can finally, finally continue working on the game. There's also a couple of added bonuses to converting the game to MV, like increased graphics size and more platforms you can play the game on.

Here's a taste of what the increased resolution will look like:

It lives

It's been quite a while since something happened on this front, hasn't it? Sometimes I just need to take a break on certain stuff, especially huge projects like this one. Sorry about that. However, now it's time for a new release. I just uploaded a new demo.

So what's new? To be honest, I barely remember what was even in the last release. The most apparent change is probably that I made some major changes to the sprites of the villagers and main character, which was a ton of work (there's still one unchanged sprite when the main character is carrying something, you'll have to excuse that for now).

I know that there are tons of changes to villager dialogue, and I'll probably change it even more in later releases. There's also a new building that you can build on your farm, given you have the resources and money required! There's a whole new shop just to get these resources and building, too. There's also new animals you can get on the farm (I think you couldn't get cows in the last release, right? And boars?), along with new plants and recipes. Ofcourse, the dream world, while still far from in a completed state, has some new stuff as well. There are probably other new stuff that I just forgot to mention, you'll just have to see for yourself.

It feels good to finally have something new to show on this project after more than 6 months of nothing.

Miscellaneous

Bugs

I am aware there are a couple of bugs towards the end of the demo.
I will probably not upload a fixed version, since I'd rather spend the time that would take on finishing the actual game. Hopefully this won't ruin anyones experience too much.
At least I uploaded a fix for the bugs in the form of quickfixes:

Put those 2 files in the "Data" folder.
Sorry about this.

At least progress have been good lately, finished a couple more dream worlds along with the rest of the farm animals, upgrades to your house, new crops, and other small stuff.

Progress

6 out of 12 dreamworlds done and most of the town done. I may even complete this game in 2013. It's probably my biggest game so far, at least looking at hours I put into it.
Also, I was asked to make a forum thingie to put in forum signatures (what do you call these things?).

Thank you and update

Thank you to everyone that offered to playtest. I got way more people than I needed offering their help, which was a nice surprise. I have made some changes and fixed some bugs and now I'm ready for another release. Click that download button to get it.

Need playtesters

I’m at the state where I am thinking of releasing another chunk of the game soon. However, the game is too big for me to find all bugs and errors at this state, which is why I post this:

I need some testers. If you would be interested, send me a message here or on my site: http://owlgame.webs.com/contact

The more, the merrier. If you have never played any Harvest Moon, that would be even better. Credit will be given.

Game Design

Planned for future releases

+Furniture and decorations, some might have some use, some might just be decoration, haven't decided yet.
+Crafting (completed system and a couple of recipes).
+Fishing (see images).
+Beebox or something that gives resources every couple of days. Ideas?
+More shops (crafting shop done, may add another for furniture and other stuff).
+Naturally growing resources. Maybe mining.
+House upgrades.

Breaktime's over

Back from the one week game-making contest and working on RaS again.
Specifically, real-world stuff.
I've implemented a crafting system, requiring a recipe book and ingredients,
and possibly tools (depending on what you are making).
With crafting you will be able to make some really neat stuff, like
soap to catch earthworms with, spore syringes that plants mushroom,
fishing baits, and at higher crafting levels stuff to get hidden
stuff in dreamworlds, among other things.
Also added fishing, as apparent by the latest screenshot.
Along with all the new stuff comes a new shop selling miscellanea,
and a couple of new locations.
I've also taken a look at the lighting system I used,
and it appears it cause slowdowns for some players,
so I've removed that and decided to use a slightly more time-consuming method,
which also gives me more control over lighting.

Break

I will be taking some time off from working on Reap and Sow, due to participating in a gamemaking contest. I'll be back in a week!

Announcement

Bragging, sorry

Reap and Sow got chosen as game of the month over on
rpgmakervxace.com, needless to
say, I'm very happy to get some recognition for all my hard work.
Another news thingy: Indiestatik.com wrote an article on the game.
I urge anyone interested to go read it.
Good things do happen to those who wait.

I'll be working on the game with renewed vigor.
Until next time, ta ta.
