Pom gets a review (another one!)

Helloooo!!!
Yes, I'm rather late to the party but I finally played "Pom gets Wi-fi" too!
And that's strange, I mean not because this is a popular game (or at least, not only) but also because it's a RPGmaker2003 game, and I am trying to play them all since it's my favourite engine. By the way this wacky comedy game made and released by Me-Patra/Brianna Lei in 2013.

In this game we play as Pom (of course), a dog, or better, a pomeranian (obviously!) that is obsessed with the internet. This little furry fellow has a simple and easy life, but one day a fire breaks out in her house and she dies.
What's worse, she loses access to the internet. But hey, she's D-E-A-D! The end!

This is a cool dog isn't he? Well, he'll become even cooler when you will learn that Dave Pointer lets you save your game!

Well no. Of course that's not the end! I mean, Pom crosses the rainbow bridge and arrives to Dog Heaven, where she is joined by Shibe, a Shiba Inu (well, not a surprise!) that died in the same fire since they both had the same master. But of course there is only a thing that Pom wants: ̶a̶ ̶r̶e̶v̶i̶e̶w̶ ... wi-fi, access to the internet and to her FaceWOOF, RedDIG, gTAIL and TumFUR accounts! Of course.

This is a premise for a totally bizarre adventure that's an excuse to explore Dog Heaven and encounter many different characters, and maybe the mysterious DOG, that is the canine equivalent of a divinity, I mean, just switch these letters! amd I won't tell you more about what's going to happen next, because this is a simple 45 minutes - 1 hour adventure with two different endings that you have to experience by yourself! Anyway while not a really a horror game, this apparently colorful and lighthearted adventure has some unexpected dark twists!

BATTLES! Yes. This game has battles. Dog battles of course!

For the gameplay, it's nothing complex: some esploration, many fetch quests and the occasional battle. But not your typical rpgmaker battle with consumables and abilities that requires strategic planning, rather a parody of these typical rpgmaker battles: Pom fights with randomised "Yo Mama" jokes, while Shibe... well Shibe is so useless. Cute but extremely useless!

The graphics are all custom! And colorful, cute (even if like other games such as Pen Palz and Pup, colorful and cute assets does not mean that the story won't have some really dark moments, of course!), that includes many portraits of differend dogs. It really looks like a children's book. For music and sounds it's less striking since there are many classic Rtp sounds and tunes but also the occasional original music that is a welcomed additions since not only they fit the atmosphere of the game, but also are more memorable of the soundtracks you may have heard one thousand times.

Well, that's a good thing, I guess!

Final Verdict
Ok, as many other players I probably won't even understand why this game was so popular, maybe because of the colorful cute dogs or because it became a sort of meme... well it's not too bad at all, on the contrary, I've played many worse rpgmaker games, the graphics are a bit stylized but at least they're all original, and mapping is simple but not bad, there are no bugs or errors of any kind. Anyway I undertand the comedy is subjective, and also Pom is a really irritating character, but it's ok I mean this may be not a really exciting game for every player, but still it provokes a reaction because it's obviously a parody... of many things. It's also competently made and the custom assets are always a big plus for me. And I admit I enjoyed it more than similar games like A Very Pink Game or Pup, the game has also a message that will be very clear, but I suggest you to play the game and see both endings. And well, then you can give your opinion, mine is that this is an interesting experience, a simple little but well done adventure game that entertains for some time.
