A few tips:

The scholar shard may seem lame, but it can turn any character in a powerhouse if used intelligently.
By boosting the received EXP in battle, your character will advance faster in therms of levels, what is ideal if you want to have a powerful tanker on the next floor, for example.

Parameter buffs are more useful than what you might be led to believe. Use them.

The monk's extremely high HP, plus its innate Revive TP Skill makes it a very powerful character. Especially if paired with an HP+% accessory.
