Devil Hunter: Seeker of Power is an atmospheric romp in the shoes of a man betrayed. It follows the tale of Solian as he attempts to put his life to rights again after the betrayal of the woman he loved and the friends he once relied apon. He also happens to be a well-known fighter of Demons, to boot.
Devil Hunter was made in RM2K3 and utilizes custom skill and menu systems. The biggest draw of the game is that it doesn't try to be anything more than an RPG Maker game and does such solidly. It has a great story and neat atmosphere, utilising sound quite well throughout the game. The systems within work well and battles are reasonably balanced so as to aid in the completion and yes, it is one of the few complete classic RPGs and, if I am not mistaken, a winner of at least one Misao award in the past.
Where the game does falter is the characterisation. While the plot in and of itself is quite interesting, the dialogue could use a little fixing. Grammar and spelling mistakes are found with-in but not so much that you notice them at every turn. And though most characters are quite dull, there are a few who shine quite nicely when compared to the rest of the cast.
A classic game that deals with learning to live again after betrayal and laying one's bad emotions (and enemies) to rest, Devil Hunter is a game worth playing if only to experience a solid, classic game with great atmosphere and sound use, interesting story and custom evented systems.
