Part of the RPG Maker Classics Archive: an initiative to upload classic RM games so they are not forgotten.

Developed by: Ski
Date of Release: 2004

Devil Hunter: Seeker of Power is an atmospheric romp in the shoes of a man betrayed. It follows the tale of Solian as he attempts to put his life to rights again after the betrayal of the woman he loved and the friends he once relied apon. He also happens to be a well-known fighter of Demons, to boot.

Devil Hunter was made in RM2K3 and utilizes custom skill and menu systems. The biggest draw of the game is that it doesn't try to be anything more than an RPG Maker game and does such solidly. It has a great story and neat atmosphere, utilising sound quite well throughout the game. The systems within work well and battles are reasonably balanced so as to aid in the completion and yes, it is one of the few complete classic RPGs and, if I am not mistaken, a winner of at least one Misao award in the past.

Where the game does falter is the characterisation. While the plot in and of itself is quite interesting, the dialogue could use a little fixing. Grammar and spelling mistakes are found with-in but not so much that you notice them at every turn. And though most characters are quite dull, there are a few who shine quite nicely when compared to the rest of the cast.

A classic game that deals with learning to live again after betrayal and laying one's bad emotions (and enemies) to rest, Devil Hunter is a game worth playing if only to experience a solid, classic game with great atmosphere and sound use, interesting story and custom evented systems.

This was the first rpgmaker game I ever played. It's what got me started on my journey all those years ago. Think I might pick this up and play through again.
This was one of my firsts too, I loved this old game. It's a shame the guy never did make a prequel, and a sequel to this. It had a really interesting story.

By the way Aremen, I'm gonna see if I can help you with this. Sadly alot of the old internet is pretty much buried, but I remember playing this one old rpg maker game called (forget the whole name), and he made a saga out of it if I recall, and had his own website. I remember it belong to the rpg maker 2000 family of games.

EDIT:
I remember the title now!! It was called Final Destiny!

EDIT:
Success, I hit the jackpot even though it was not hard to find. l'll message you the website where there is a collection of classic RPG maker games.

The bad news:
Sites like Angel-Fire, and Geocity is now gone since some rpg games was stored there as I remembered finding one there. I can no longer find access to the web pages that was supposed to be archived.
Another fabulous classic bestowed to us all by our newly found saviour, Aremen.

-All hail Aremen, and his glorious new regime!
This is actually the only RPGMaker game I ever completed twice (and one of a select few I've actually completed once). I wouldn't go so far as to call it my favorite, but it is certainly one of the more worry-free enjoyable games out there. And it contains just enough strategy to make you think you're smart for perma-casting reflect on everyone.

Also, the music is awesome. It's still my all-time favorite score for an RPGMaker game (even though most of the music originates from a single source).

Try the Wayback machine. It won't work for everything but if you have a web address it's worth a shot. www.archive.org

This was one of the first rpgmaker games I played as well. In fact, I actually played the intro multiple times over and over -because I was a little kid and I never figured out how to get out of the custom menu (press the same button you used to bring it up -duh!) But I liked the start of the game so much I just kept playing it over again from time to time. What a dolt.. Glad to see it again, will be able to finish it now!

Also, what is the 'single source' of music for this game?
I appear to be stuck on what to do after getting back a level 19 Vane at the Temple of Holies. He said something about a sealed temple and how we needed to find information but I cannot find anything in the places I've been. Did I hit a glitch? Curse my impatient dialogue skipping and button mashing. The switch is not in the library nor any of the other rooms open to me. The guard won't let me search the dorms so the switch better not be in there.

Oh, Roy, do you have the 2003 RPGmaker runtime package already? I think that's what it is called anyway.

Oh! Another thing I found amusing. In Vivica castle when you first go to see the King you can explore on the roof to chat with the guards. I found a consistent glitch where the ladder on the left roof tower stuck Solian in perma-climb mode through the world map and such. The way to get him out of it was to climb to the top of the ladder on the right and then leaving that tower would remove the climbing animation and put Solian back into boring old walking.
AltoClarinetist: the switch is at the centre hall, in the middle of fountain. You need to click on the fountain center from above, it will trigger a scene. I hope there is a walkthrought for this.
When I dl the 2003 RPGmaker runtime package it says it is corrupted. is there a preferred site you recommend to dl from? Thanks.

We have a version on this site in the Utility section, I believe.
One of the first RM games I ever played. It was fun for what it was :D
Weird question but... didn't this game have an early version on RPG Maker 2000? I have some vague memories of that... namely that the hero was named Solian (so it may be the same game), he was looking for a woman or was betrayed by one, there was a custom menu to learn spells and that the boss battle music was incredible.
How do I get in the house with no door - so I can finish the thief job ? Thanks !
