A day in total grey...

Good night, and welcome to the review of Monochrome, a game that it's beffer played ad night. Monochrome is a game made with RpgMaker VX Ace in a week by Okami_Amaterasu, and it's a short puzzle game adventure, that includes more puzzles than adventures!

For a puzzle game, Monochrome has a very interesting plot: the protagonist and our alter ego is a depressed guy that hates snowy days after he had a incident in the past... and this guy is now inside a cabin during a snowstorm. But what happened that day? well play the game and see. What I can say is that this begoinning made me really interested to see what was going to happen next.
And that's a good thing!
Why? WHY??? Well because in this game you have to explore, click every tile possible, and do MATH! Ohhh yes, terrible math that for me (and I stress that, for me, I don't know if you feel the same!) is the most difficult opponent! Eeheh... yes... uhm!

Well that's what normally happens as time passes. Isn't it?

The gameplay of Monochrome involves no combat, little exploration, just finding items and solving math problems/operations. All tasks are logical, and in fact this is a game where it's necessary to reason in order to be able to proceeed further. I admit that after a while my interest was a bit waning because the game becomes a bit repetitive and unfortunately there is not a lot of variety of puzzles. Anyway the game probably takes 40-50 minutes to complete, even if it depends how good you are with math and logic.

Graphically the game is really charming and I absolutely loved the all custom made graphics as they contributes a lot the the atmosphere of mystery. But I'm not just talking of the few map and charaset but also of the cutscene of course.
Oh and about this remember to watch the final scene until the ending that will provide a good final scene... I liked that a lot.
If the graphics were captivating, I cannot say the same for music, anyway it's not that there is bad music or ripped sounds, it's just ok, not partoicularly noteworthy but still not annoying and... well just ok for me!

Surprise, surprise! It's a review, and here's the...

Final Verdict
Monochrome is a little, simple and beautiful game. I've said many times that I personally find it difficult to play a monochromatic game for long, but uh ok it's my problem, anyway it is not a really long game some I did not mind too much. This was for the visul style and atmosphere, that are my favourite part. For the gameplay point of view it's really subjective, because I know that some players may be interested while others will be annoyed for the puzzle-adventure nature of the game. But it's noit bad, has no bugs and all is coherent and well done. Also story isn't exactly a usual clichè and that's another good point.

For a small game this offers a lot for some players (4/5) and not enough for others (3/5). In my opinion 3.5/5 is the right rating, ok? Try it and let me know!
