Gifts at the last minute!

Hello again!
As promised here I am, with another Christmas themed game: this time here we have a game by Unity called Last Minute Gift. It's a 2014 RPG Maker VX Ace action dungeon adventure about collecting gifts!

In this game we play as Lieve, a little girl that likes writing stories on her pc, and she like this so much that she forgot to buy gifts for her friends! Oh no! Christmas is approaching, so here's the greatest idea: enter the Krampulian Abyss dungeon and collect some treats from there. I mean these are there and are free! Just take them! It will be easy isn't it?

Because everyone knows that all wandering martial artists love cookies! Isn't it?

Weeeeell to tell the truth this is YOUR choice: select between an Easy (walk in park) or Hard (walk in Hell) difficulty setting, as usual I choose the Normal option and I'm pretty much satisfied with it. But you are free to select another options, and this opportunity is a first good thing that this game can offer.

Now, the gameplay: Lieve clearly is not a fighter, so all she can do (besides collecting gifts, of course) is running and dodging the creatures of the dungeon, from explosive slimes and skeletons, but the most dangerous are probably the bees! Always check their movements to figure out how to avoid them, even if Lieve is tough enough to endure some attacks.
Anyway you should not worry too much since there are some upgrades scattered here and there that can improve Lieve's level increasing her life bar (and her survivability, of course!). Moreover there are hearts that will heal our heroine, and save points, that are well distribuited in the underground world (the yellow ones will just save, the blue ones will also heal our protagonist).

OW!!! These slimes are everywhere! But I've already found 14 gifts! I'm good!

In any case the place is not only filled with enemies and various creatures, but also traps! In any case what we're loking for are the gifts, hidden in various chests. You only need ten, but there are fifteen gifts to be found!

Graphically the style of the game recalls one of the previous games by Unity I reviewed, Quest Questers (even if this game is far simpler, less comple both for gameplay and story), and it's not a case because some of the maps from that game were originally made for this game, but also other assets are the same, like for example the chests. Is this a problem? Well not at all! I like a lot custom made graphics and this little game included lots of hand drawn colorful different environments and locations. Well done!
Speaking about mapping, I also liked the unusual layout of the Krampulian Abyss (and Lieve's house is nice too!) and the beautiful hand drawn maps, but I must admit that also the music tracks are not less important to create the festive atmosphere of this game. Another good point!

Ok, thanks for the warning, I guess I'll proceed to the...

Final Verdict!
Last Minute Gift may be a Last Minute Game, but it's pretty entertaining despite its rather short length (30 minutes, more or less). Aside for the custom made pretty graphics and the colorful cute characters and portraits, it offer a challenge that's pretty much fair, not too easy and not frustrating at all, so all can I say is that this is a pretty much enjoyable little game. Perfect for Christmas time, I guess!

I'm a big fan of this game. Offers something that's not super common in RPG Maker games. Has great environments, a nice level of challenge. Just a sweet, compact treat. :) <3

That's the "unity RTP" coming through ;P Very useful to have your own RTP in short event occasions! Hehe. :D

haha, thanks so much for the review! And yeah, this game actually working pretty well is actually what inspired Quest Questers, and I liked the chest graphic and some of the maps so much I had to reuse them! (Okay it was probably more because I was originally under a time limit making QQ)

Thanks again!
