A Demo About Saving Your Father's Soul

This is a demo review.
This is a review for the file which is downloaded on June 18, 2017. My playtime is around 6 hours. I haven't finished the demo because i can't seem to proceed through the game (mostly because of a bug).

Intro
FinalBound:Clash of Gods is a turn based game about a kid who's helping his father. The game has a lot of animated cutscene on the beginning.

Graphics
Most (if not all) of the graphics are using default graphics. The outer mapping is quite decent although the inner mapping looks weird.


How can i open that cupboard?


There are also some animated cutscenes at the beginning of the game. I'm impressed with the amount of details that the dev took just to make the game looks more alive- the dev is trying to tell the story through the cutscenes instead of dialogue texts. However, some of the scene looks weird, to the point that it's hilarious (it's still good though).

There are some collision errors in the game. The most that i see in one map is in Ikerin, the snowy town; Most of the "outer wall" can be passed through.

Music
The game uses some custom musics in addition of the default music. It also matches perfectly for each other. However, the bgm before you collect any gem sounds quite weird because it looks like the dev wants to use more than one bgm for that matter.

Story
There is a cool intro in the game, although i'm not sure what's the connection with the main story. The main story itself looks great and all, if not for the horrible grammar mistakes. Sometimes i find it hard to understand what the dev meant.

Sometimes, the graphic image (in the dialogue) for the characters look slightly different. However, in some occasion, the graphic image also look completely different, which i assume as old character portraits. However, it confuses me about who is who, especially when they change the portrait to animals.

Lastly, i want to point out that the animation transition when the prologue ends (when there is a finalbound logo) is very slow; I have to wait for a minute to see it ends (and it's unskippable).

The game
Although i said that this game is a turn based game, there is a stealth and a "time reaction" system in the game too (although it's only used for a short time). However, the stealth one lacks any checkpoint and the "time reaction" one is purely by luck.

At first, i'm quite confused with the first quest that asks me to find a thief. The thief is nowhere to be found and you actually can progress through the story by going back to home.

At some point, you'll receive a lantern to light a cave. However, this lantern needs to be activated manually whenever you enter an area. Luckily, the cave area is quite short.

The battle portion of the game is just like your usual RPG Maker game; you can attack, use skill, defend, use item, or even flee. However, there is no way to restore your MP (even though there is a MP based character in the game) unless you're using item, sleeping at inn, or finding a green crystal (which is very rare).

I find that the random encounter in this game is very high. Sometimes i can even find an enemy after walking one step after a battle. The normal monsters can take a lot of time to kill and they can kill you if you aren't careful.

Some dungeons have bosses at the end of it. Although the first boss is just like a harder version of the normal monsters in the area, i think that the second boss (Pigster) needs to be nerfed. It can one shot the party member.

The game itself is based on missions; you can take any missions in any order you want and kill the boss at the end of the dungeon. However, 2 out of 4 dungeons in the first set of dungeons are bugged(?) and i'm not sure if you can proceed through them.

Pros:
- You can finish the dungeons in any order
- Different concept in each dungeon area
- Cool animated cutscenes

Cons:
- Bugs
- Unable to restore MP

Conclusion
This is a turn based RPG Maker game with short dungeon.

Final rating: 3/5
The game is great. However, the bug needs to be fixed first.

Bugs:
- I can't talk to the weapon and armor shop in Sintia.
- I can't talk to the armor shop in Ikerin.
- In the poison dungeon, there is an error when you try to move the torch to the poison. "Cannot open file 2003_ṏ__2"
- In the fire dungeon, you'll stuck (as in.. can't move) if you fall to the southeast hole in the third floor.
- In the fire dungeon, you'll fall in a place where you can't do anything if you fall to the middlesouth hole in the third floor.
- In the ghost dungeon, if you don't beat the Rotten Corpse before the room with 2 4 digit locks, the corpse will be in the room with 4 digit locks and when you return to the Rotten Corpse's original area, you'll automatically fight it.
- In the ghost dungeon, the green crystal gone after you killed the boss.
