Progress Report

Floating above waters of Hiatus

This Banner Maker is awesome

Ok, I haven't touched Mace Blue since the last update. I haven't read the last update or that damned chronicles page to correct mistakes yet. I have been avoiding VX Ace since that too. What if I opened the project accidentally?
But now, now I'm back on it. I returned to finish assets for the game, starting with music then moving on the rest of graphics.
I wanted music to be really retro and so opened this cool software call Music Construction Set. The problem is, that I don't know how to export anything. Also working with the program is pretty painful. Luckily I found something better, RT.Synth. It's a beautiful piece of software and it would be pretty helpful if only my laptop had had something like stereo sound card. I may try it with the other computer later.

So I haven't made anything worth a mention. So, I'll try to submit what tracks I'm about to make:
-10 for environment
-4 for bosses
-1 for the rest of encounters
-and about 5 story related songs

I want to make some custom sounds too. Maybe, I'll rip em from Ultima if I get lazy.

Grandma of your favorite, Fruity Loops

Also I'm returning to graphics. I've already noticed that some tiles are terrible. I won't be doing anything about it. But I'll make some more tiles for the resource pack. I wont to make some world map tiles as I'm in world maps right now.
As for battlers and sprites and faces, I want to finish it all as soon as possible. And It's unlikely that I will use a software for Apple 2. It's pretty hard to make something in it and I got bored pretty fast with wacky controls.

Graphics I aim to make:
-World Tileset
-about twenty battler
-four boss battlers
-four more sprite sheets
-some pictures

This is actually pretty cool

To finish the circle, I should talk about the actual game, how its mapping progresses for example?
There is nothing new here, but once the resources are finished, It's gonna be a piece of cake. I need to make about 30 maps and events for three quarters of the game. Story is finished since RSXIII.
From these magnificent yet frustrating tools, I moved on games to have some joy in my life. And they are wonderful. Some don't work, that's the truth. The rest is good enuf, Might and Magic 2, Space Quest, Karateka, Conan...

These dark waters of emulators are lurking me so much.

I love Karateka's colors. The game design is outdated, tho.

All your history

Ugh,
just a brief update. I finished writing screenplay some two weeks ago. It's pretty cool, I guess. I've returned to mapping and I have majority of maps finished. Then, I haven't got time fer two weeks. I got it now. I hope so. And I feel motivated to finish something. Promised lesson on history of 'franchise' follows.

Captain Captain Studios were founded by me aka Capage, Cap_H, Captain Hovado (It's an pejorative expression for Horsefly. It means brute as well). This name comes from art movement Hovadism, which we originated with friend of mine. We had grandiose plans such as using Lenin's mummy as puppet controlled from a helicopter or turning the greatest dam in our country in soup and so feed the poor. Our final masterpiece was supposed to be The Death Arse. Gargantuan Butt-shaped spaceship powered by farts of tens of thousands prisoners held on beans. With its department The Earth should have been destroyed in smelly cloud.
I'm not so radical nowadays.
I created CCS some five years later as channel for artistic activities of mine and of the others. I released short film under them for example. And them my gams.
Mace Blue: Chapter 1 was my first finished game ever. Engrish is dreadful. Battles almost random. It took me one month to finish it. I've never uploaded it anywhere as I used .wav files for bgm.
Mace Blue: Chapter 2 was never finished. The story was struggling to make any sense and it was taking too much from Pirates of Caribbean in my opinion. Also I was unable to make a starship in RTP style. What I got from the second chapter are some maps highly inspired with Idrah's work on Immortality.
Mace Blue: Arena is taking place eons after original trilogy. It did one thing, tho. Showed me the way to go with chapter three. Arena was created in about two days after weeks of thinking about more complex system to come up with for The Fundamental RPGology event. Graphics were originally made for Black Olaf, a prequel to chapters. Black Olaf was supposed to be very Ultima-like.

One more thing, I updated chronicles section with some content. I haven't read it yet as I'm too tired of writing and as I don't proofread this. Sorry.

Surfin Dev

Man, that was damn short post yesterday. And awkward one.
So, what is real state of mind and development?
-Dialogues are not finished.
-Graphics aren't finished.
-I have to rework all buildings (exterior) and some smaller interiors, tents are terribly broken. They'll stay that way. I'm talking about mapping
-some maps weren't done so far.
-Database is No man's land. It's emptier then closets in 10 Minutes Hero. I need to make skills, enemies, items and balance it.
-Is that all?
-I forgot about eventing. Most of it lays ahead of me.

Mace is trying to enter a tent. Obviously, he can't as the entrance is too small.

That's not such a big amount of work and I hope I'll be finished before April's second Saturday. I have some real life in the rest of March. Otherwise, It would be finished by the end of the month.
Also, you could notice history bookmark on my gamepage. It claims some stupidity like under construction now. There is gonna be history of Zenland for ones who haven't played previous installments. So, that's like everyone with exception of two friendos of mine.
My next post will be dedicated to history too. In more All your history fashion. It will take on previous chapters, Arena, Captain Captain Studios (and their predecessor USH. That means something like Art Group Buzz flies). It may turn out to be pretty interesting reading.
I'm getting all retrospective and I would be able talking about past and deeds for centuries. Future is what interests us. The future. Not that kind where I play hell out of Hyper Light Drifter. So, What's gonna be?
I kind of can't decide on what to do now. I wanna do everything at once. Music, databasing, mapping, writing. Usually I end up doing nothing and that is THE PROBLEM.
The Question is how can I avoid it? I guess I will start with remaping as it is what annoys me the most now. And what matters the most. Cuz How many screenshots of soundtrack can I take. And I want to participate in Maps Weekly! thread. It's kind of expected from me, being its founder.
Then I'll try to move on resources as soon as possible, so I can update them here with more battlers and, what is more important, with tilesets. I want to make soundtrack free fer use as well. I may end up submitting it to resources section too.

And I'm listening to some Surf rock classics in preparations to Best Coast's new LP. That's why the name of tis post is reference to The Trashmen.

Devoer than Devo

I did planned to release the game today. And here we are with more problems made than solved. Actually, I moved backwards in the development. Simple working battle system is now in ruins and being remade.
And what about my brand new Cadillac, my new character sprites? They destroyed whole mapping. Houses, tents, entrances they all look ridiculous now. I will be remaking half of the mapos. Agh.
I'm so annoyed, that I don't want to write anything else. I uploaded some graphical resources from the game. You can use them anyway you want if you want. My guess is, that you won't.
I'll made another, serious post tomorrow. I promise.

Ch-ch-changes

I've returned to this abandoned project of mine and noticed several terrible things.
-It looks ugly
-Sprites look ugly
-story is pain
-battle system can be made better easily
-It won't be so easy
-I forgot about character being orange and made some maps orange

Basically, this is project I started working on after Mace Blue: Arena. I made sithy resources and some maps, some dialogues. Use of my broken English is exceptional. I knew how the story is supposed to develop, what maps I needed for the game.
It was supposed to be finished fast. Now, It's a long-term project. So, I've decided to improve some aspects of the game to make me less frustrated about not being able to kick myself to finish it earlier.
The first change are new sprites. They should stand out better. They will be six pixels on four pixels for normal characters and six on six for their bulky comrades and antagonists in their power suits.

The other change is to the battle system, which will be more complex with capability of having more than one life. Boss fights can turn out slightly epic after all! I'll post more detailed entry on it in future weeks.

That's it for now. There will be another blog post on Friday.
