She dreams of fires every night. Of an empty house in the mountains where she once lived. Her past is a mystery, her life is a dream and those who try to help her the most are the ones she trusts least of all.

Sometimes what lies between waking is more true than the life we live outside of it and sometimes we tell ourselves lies about the past and things that were done.

Who can say why the dreamer lies?
Who can say when the dreamer dies?
Who can say whether death is just a longer dream or if the life we live is a dream and dreams are our lives?

Examine yourself in the world of someone else's dreams. How will you react to the dreamers memories? Will you run or try to change what has gone before? Will you find meaning in this random bullshit I spit out and labelled a game or will you write off your reactions as inconsequential?

Are the deepest dreams best forgotten?

Completed!

Yosh! Version 1.0 is out and ready for people to download and find bugs in. ;p

It has 5 different endings and isn't quite the pile of shit I was expecting it to be. That said, it's not the best game I've ever created but there might be something in it that's a little redeemable. Don't expect awesome quests, people. This ain't an RPG, but hey - it's complete!

Let's just say that you're not supposed to like certain choices and decisions for reasons and that there is almost always a way past the things you didn't like. (Almost.) Some may just be not the choices you wanted to make and contain detriments to them. X3
Doesn't that strike you as being more of a problem than anything positive? The way you have these choices set up creates a lack of consistency in a bad way, since your game page advertises that "the player can make choices to alter the outcome!" and yet the game itself often denies that, or puts some kind of needlessly cryptic solution that mainly requires trial-and-error to find out that you can make a choice.

My old 2k3 joke game, Chrono Trigger, had deliberate design decisions too, but that didn't make it an enjoyable experience (though honestly I don't even know what to think of this game in particular).
Actually, it doesn't. Cancelling a choice is always an option in RM. People just tend to forget that, more's the pity. And your other choices do change outcomes. There is one choice in the whole game that does nothing. One. And it's the very first one. All the others? Do things. Change things.
Every.
Single.
One.

But, like... I don't even think "it's supposed to be frustrating" is a good response because it makes all my critiques useless. I don't even feel like writing a review because it feels like all my points are useless now because "the game is supposed to be that way" apparently. In which case I wouldn't even want to touch the game because it is precious and personal and does not deserve critique. And anything I find wrong in the game is just subjective because there is no such thing as bad game design in this game because it's all "supposed" to be frustrating.

And that frustrates me to no end.
Welcome to the world of reviewing artistic ideas. XD

Seriously, though, you can point out what you didn't like, there might be some things that are legit issues that I might not have considered, but a lot of the things people have said they didn't like were designed that way to get that reaction. Maybe wait for the reply to the other review to see if there's stuff that isn't explained and then write your review?

Because 'it's supposed to be that way' is a legit thing for a creator to say about something - and it's not because I'm trying to avoid critique like some people do. I've already been told one or two things about it that I've got to fix up because they were legit errors - but when something is designed a particular way it can't be helped from either side.

It's like... if someone designed a custom weapon that is purely for show and looking cool, telling the creator that it wouldn't work as a real weapon is a bit silly for both sides. It's not meant to be used as a weapon - it suits a purpose other than that, despite the fact that it is, technically, a weapon. But on the other hand, the critiquer has the right to point out that it wouldn't work as a weapon. Both sides aren't wrong, so then who has the 'right of it'? If it was made for a particular purpose then that is the purpose of it.

You could just write about the story aspects and critique those instead, or talk about how it made you feel. Actually, those kinds of reviews are more likely the kind that would be better, to be honest. They'd tell me if what I was aiming for actually worked or not, and whether I need to look in to conveying those kinds of things a bit more clearly. I am also interested in what you would say frustrated you and the like. Just because it isn't pertinent in some areas of this game doesn't mean that it wouldn't help me grow as a creator.

So please, I would like to see what you'd write as a review. Even if you hated it - though I do ask that you at least wait until after Nova's is accepted so I can point out why certain things were done in certain ways. I mean, it probably wouldn't change your reactions and feelings of frustration towards certain gameplay aspects but there were some assumptions that were made that are straight out wrong and also explaining where certain things came from - and the thoughts put in to them - might help you feel a little less like you were cheated in some way. ^.^;

Sorry it's such a conflicting game, but hey, that was a little of the point. Some would love, some would hate, some would be ambivalent and how each person reacts tells a lot about yourself and your own reactions to, for one example, being trapped.

Yeah, love it or hate it, a review is expressing your thoughts on a game, and while being objective is important, for an art game I think you just have to go with how it felt to you. Even if your points can be countered with "it was supposed to be that way" it doesn't make your opinions less valid, as a review is expressing your personal experience of playing the game. Other people will have other opinions on the experience. And if a game gets enough reviews, there will be a wide range of opinions for the readers (and game maker) to refer to.

I may write a review for this game as well. ^_^ It's interesting to see how many varied opinions one game can generate.
I decided not to wait on the review because good god, soli, where the hell you at lad?! XD

This page has an explanation of the game (and serves as a bit of a walkthrough, albeit with spoilers.) I hope it makes things clear.

BTW - The game is not about suicide! Geez, guys. >.<

e: I'll be putting up a fixed version (there were a handful of small bugs - one of which stopped you from getting one of the bad endings) in the next day or so.

Liberty, please? *w*
I would like to let's play this but I can't get the other 2 endings. You should release an ending guide.

P.S: The reason I want an ending guide and I haven't posted the video yet is because I want to get all the endings in the video.
