DON'T PLAY THIS GAME

I never thought that a curse from the past would be what killed me.
Yes, by the time you read this I will be dead. I can feel the poison slowly eating me from inside.

It's all because of that damned game. I got it from one of my old friends. We met by chance at my workplace. After a little chat he gave me a CD with a peculiar game.
It was titled "Townlore" - I won't forget that title.
He told me that it's supposed to be cursed. I didn't believe it back then, obviously.
After work I decided to try out the game.
It was simple and pretty boring, actually.
Only interesting part of it was that it used real-time gameplay.
I thought that, maybe at a certain point, something interesting would occur.
I got back to game every hour. Until...

If you are already playing :

DON’T PLAY THIS GAME LATE AT NIGHT.
DON’T GO INTO THE FOREST.

I've seen this game somewhere. It was very interesting, but I haven't play it.
Ah, so you decided to go back and retouch this up from the previous version - that’s cool! I honestly didn’t expect an update to this, actually.

- So what are some of the new things that you’re planning to add in for 2.0? Is the clock system going to be more based on in-game time instead of real time like the previous? Is there going to be a proper ending sequence this time around? Can I actually go inside some of locked houses that were locked from before? Oh, I’m getting excited now.

If it’s just graphical update and not much other than just that, well…then I’ll be a bit disappointed. Hopefully that’s not entirely the case.

Either way - I’m pretty stoked. I’ll be keeping an eye on this. *subs*

I think it's an actual sequel. Correct me if I'm wrong. It'd be nice if GreyInvidia cleared this up.
Yeah, we need more details, GreyInvidia. Come on, now.

2.0 makes me think remake rather than sequel.

Really? I thought that since Townlore was considered the name of the executable program, Townlore 2.0 would've been a nice twist on the sequel naming format. Kind of like how the sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy is going to be Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, because, well you know, it's volume 2 of the mixtape, which you'll understand if you've seen the film. If it was simply the second version of the game, then I wouldn't see why it would warrant a new page.
To make things clear - version 2.0 not only has improved (i think) graphics, but also more content.

In the first version of the game, I often heard: "why can't we go to the Mainland?". It was good question - mostly because this location was mentioned in the game few times. So, that's the fisrt change - you can travel to the Mainland.

Next, you have an ability to earn some money in the game and spend it on various stuff.

One more location was added.

I also added more to the story itself. Now - if player decide to scope a bit more into the game, he or she may find some more clues, possibly letting player know what happened.

Sorry for late answer, but I wasn't available for a while. Anyway download is up, if anyone is interested.
this seems interesting. I hope it succeeds in creeping me out a little, since scary/creepy games are a guilty pleasure of mine.
Those all sound rather great, but I’m mostly just worried about the return of the real time clock. (Also was going to the mainland really one of the main pressing concerns in the original? I didn’t know that.)

Well, I’m going to ADDIT to my playlist and make it review # 51 and release it sometime in October. It will be interesting to see just how much has changed since the original Townlore…(hopefully for the better).

For real-time clock thing, it still is here. Reason for that is that in the original it was essential part of the game (concept for it revolved around it, pretty much), and changing it just because one person finds it to be a problem would be simply weak. It also doesn't take a genius to figure out how to operate the game and progress with ease, so that's even more of the reason to stay true to the original on that matter.

Other thing is, I've noticed that you complained about inability to enter other houses. Let me put it that way - would you like anybody to go into your own home when nobody's there? If you want to visit one of them houses so bad, then first wait for it's resident to be inside.

- NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

...Oh well. I guess I’ll have to make due.

Only to take in the newspaper. :)

Either way, you did the right thing. Just because one wacko reviewer doesn’t like certain aspects of a particular game doesn’t mean that he’s right. Besides, it’s your vision. All I can do is just express my opinion and thoughts and hope for the best.

Yeah, don't take it personally, or anything. I'm glad that you always find interest in my games (positive or negative - that doesn't matter). It's just that many actually found that one aspect of the game to be innovative, interesting and most importantly - adding to the feeling of creepiness.
Hello, I enjoyed the first Townlore and thought I'd give this a go as well.

It was nice to get some backstory into what that creature/girl was in the forest and whatnot in this version. The audio find in the cave was a nice touch. Not too sure what the real point of the mainland was other than to socialize with the professor (show him your specimens) and buy stuff, but it was nice that you included the option to go there! I'm just wondering if I missed anything since I was jumping around quite a bit time-wise. :P

As for the ending, I keep getting a game_interpreter error now every time I try to load the game up. So not sure if I'm missing anything there. Overall I enjoyed playing this though and seeing what would happen next. Nice interactive creepypasta!

Get this up on steam!

With all honesty, I don't think it's worth being on Steam XD
Well I enjoyed this remake and I really liked the real-time thing, someone thought this gonna be a problem, but for me this was exciting. Waiting for the night to play this game add more suspense. And the new features on day were interesting. Thanks for the experience!

Glad you enjoyed it somewhat :). I dunno how much content you discovered so far in the game, but comparing to the first version of the game, there are few secrets that reveal a bit of what happened.
Slight issue. "Unable to find the VL Gothic Font" Any idea how to fix? I see two gothic fonts listed in the folder, but won't allow the game to start.

Scratch that, I was unaware they were installable xd
