Burning the Strawman

Having the story change based on player behavior is incredibly important to me. One might say it's the most important aspect of my design philosophy. Three Cheers for the Strawman went against that philosophy by starring a character who refused to accept the truth and sought asylum in a fabricated reality of punishment, despite what desperate measures her new acquaintance may have taken.
Every person is different in how they think, feel, and act. There are plenty of people who would have looked at Juno's situation and wrote her off as a lost cause, and that's perfectly understandable. However, what if, in all the acquaintances Juno meets in that nightmarish world, there was someone who wasn't willing to give up on her? What if there was someone who wanted to keep her from suffering as much as possible, either by planning out battle actions or running away when things looked grim? What if there was someone who kept her away from the End for as long as possible? What if there was someone who was willing to stay behind for her, when by all rights, should have abandoned her?
What if there was someone willing to force Juno back on her feet one last time?

Thanks, Ratty. I'm interested in hearing what you think of it!
So, I'm not sure if I finished this. I played through the game twice, but the result remained the same. I just can't help Juno anymore until once we get to a certain point.
But, considering other comments, I think there's something I am missing here. Can I get some help?
By the way, the atmosphere in this is ridiculously powerful - and very oppressive. You did a really good job, Red!
Juno asks me to respond if I can, and I can't.

That... was a mistake on my part. I changed around a text function for the choice menus at the last second and it turns out to have borked the timer function.
The download has been updated with the fixed version. Sorry about that!
EDIT: You can just move your save file into the new version, so no need to start over again because of that mistake.
Serves me right for trying to sound cryptic and cool in the announcement blog. Six million years of evolution culminating into this brilliant fuck-up. Go me.

@Red That works a lot better!
And I'm done with the game. Gee, that was pretty heavy, and the whole time I was engrossed. The battles really impressed me, as the simplicity initially caught me off guard. The battles seemed to be balanced a lot like they were puzzles and were generally satisfying. The execution skill may have cost a bit much, but having to use a move to terminate the enemies was super interesting. Like I said before, the atmosphere is killer, and certainly the most atmospheric game I've played so far this year. Juno was really relatable and I genuinely wanted the best for her. The ability to give her a hopeful goodbye was appreciated (and I assume not in the version of the game before this blog's version?)
This was a really solid game, not without its flaws, but all-in-all well done!

Thanks so much Gourd! Yeah, the execution skill's cost seems to be the biggest complaint, and something I should have fixed earlier. Not sure why I didn't, but I went ahead and lowered the cost to 20 Pulse. It shouldn't affect anyone currently playing, but future players won't have to worry about it.
You're right in that the new ending was not in the original version. It was in the original plan, but a bunch of factors led to it being cut (primarily the lack of time). I really hated not having it in, so I broke the rule of a one week dev time to put it in.
Again, thanks so much for playing!

Wow, really liked the new ending! I actually botched getting it at first because I didn't stay away from the The End's sprite as long as possible, but I tried that afterwards and was able to get the ending.
Very nice, and it made me feel good to guide Juno to a better ending ^_^

Just the conversation? No. That's not the new ending.
Hey I still can't get the ending. I've downloaded the latest version and did what unity said she did to trigger the ending. Is there something I'm missing? Did I die too often?
