STORY:
In an unnamed kingdom, a typical Demon King kidnaps the princess of the fair land. A brave knight, blessed with the magic powers of the gods, goes to the Demon King's Castle to stop him. Just as the Knight is doing well in the battle with the Demon King, something unexpected happens. The Demon King uses a pistol, a weapon unfamiliar to the Knight, to shoot him to the point of death. Luckily, a fairy named Ginette helps heal the ailing Knight, giving him a shotgun to help defeat the Demon King. Now the Knight must return to the Castle and finish the fight once and for all!

This project was made for the Swap in the Middle event. The first half was done by Red_Nova, and the second half made by Zephire98.

Just finished playing it. Good work on this, Zephire! You managed to salvage my mess of a half and turn it into something pretty cool. I love how you handled the dynamic between Knight and Ginette, and your dialogue was a lot more polished than mine.

You did a great job with this, especially considering how little you had to work with!
@Red_Nova: Thanks! I really loved working with your project! It gave me more to think with design choices a bit, though I did the whole second half in practically less than a day, though that was because I had a surge of creativity and motivation at that time.

Wish I would just finish up my demo for my Dusk of Renica game... That demo's way overdue, and I'm not exaggerating; that thing's got to be out now, but I've been in a creative slump for a while. The Swap in the Middle event did get me out of that slump, so that demo might be out Friday or this weekend, depending on my school work load this week.

Thanks! I hope to see Dusk of Renica, and soon Crimson Dawn, finally make it out to completion!

I hope to do more collab games or collaboration in general with you again in the near future. Your "Soul Sunder" and "Remnants of Isolation" games both interested me, but I haven't had the chance to play them yet.

Just got done playing it. It was freakin' ADORBS!~<3

The way the first fight against the demon king ended was particularly hilarious, reminded me a bit of Ralph Bakshi's "Wizards". :P I also got a good laugh at the interactions between the knight and Ginette.

It DOES kind of get repetitive for a bit and you had some design flaws with the mapping, mainly in that areas that weren't blocked off looked like they could be walked through to transfer, but they weren't.

Otherwise, this was a fun, refreshing gem to play. That ending was so... Bittersweet. :(
@Ratty: I'm glad that you enjoyed it. And yes, I was fully aware that there were some mapping errors, but I didn't want to clutter up the maps too much.

Maybe, if time allows me, and if Red_Nova doesn't mind, I'll make a sort of expansion to the game, but it'll mainly be fixes to maps or small extensions, nothing too minor.

Also, I guess I should have balanced the battles a bit more to prevent the game from going too fast in pace.

And, as a random fact, I was planning to make Ginette the true final boss as a twist, but I decided against that because I felt she wasn't really that type of character. Ginette isn't some Airy-type character, I figured.

But again, I'm glad that you've overly enjoyed this game. It was a blast to work on something by a notable game-maker / game designer on this site! :) :) :)

I think all you'd need to do is just block off the "fake roads" with cliff/tree tiles and it wouldn't be cluttered. "clutter" is actually not as important of an issue compared to misinforming your players.

It's funny, I kind of loosely suspected that Ginette could possibly be a "true final boss" but it didn't turn out that way, and I'm kind of glad it didn't based on your reasons.
Don't forget to add Red_Nova's name to the dev list (unless he doesn't want it there, of course.)

Yeah, man! I'd love to work on an expansion with you! I've really been wanting to polish up my half of the dialogue and redo those faces. Plus, there's some extra abilities and stuff that I meant to add but didn't. Let me know when you've got some spare time and we'll take a crack at it!

And yeah, I'd appreciate having my name added to the dev list. It'd make collaboration a lot easier as well.

Just finished this game. Thoughts under hide-tag.


To be honest, I half-expected Ginette to be okay in the end (or at least pull out a Wand of Blasting at some point in the game ("This is MY boomstick!")), but not necessarily a true-final-boss. I certainly found the way she died to be a point of irony. Though, I find it odd that she calls herself a healing fairy, yet has no healing skills whatsoever? I mean, save points restoration crystals are plentiful enough, but it still seems a bit awkward that she has no healing. Unless that is a point of irony that's going over my head.

Actually, I thought the princess might be a true-final-boss! I'm not, exactly, sure what my thinking was on this point. Outside of maybe, possibly, that she wanted to be kidnapped, or wanted to be free from the trappings of royalty, or what-have-you, and the Demon King was her best bet? I dunno. The game wants to be simple, so, the standard story of her being kidnapped against her will might serve the game best.

This was a fun little game! I too wonder why Ginette didn't have any healing skills, but that's cool. Also, noticed that Capacity Upgrades say they increase your max ammo by 10 but only increase it by 1. Given that I rarely needed to reload, this wasn't a problem, tho ^_^
I believe I forgot to fix that little mistake. Well, more food for thought when me and Nova create the small expansion/repair on the game.
