This is the WombatRPGs submission for Nackster's Nov-Dec 2008 GamingW contest. Featuring:
- ABS/CMS by psy_wombats
- Full Original Soundtrack by JMickle
- Character art by Aulos
- Developed story by quack_tape
- Mixed chipsets by bob_esc (some Refmap, some Edo, some rip, minimal RTP)
- Original sprites by RAGNAROK
- Expansive levels mapped by psy_wombats

Rough Premise:
Qoppa is a loose federation of lab overseers and administrators. Not too long ago, a researcher made a "discovery" on a lab in Planet Corinth. This creation was promptly destroyed. To prevent the secret from being rediscovered, Qoppa slowly cut off communication between labs on different planets, using the Master Server on the space station Eris to shut down communication lines. Only one free research base remains.

This is on the planet Corinth. The resistance group Terra Nova is the only group making independent inquiry in the known worlds. Qoppa seeks to destroy it. Their goal is to free the research facilities on other planets and ultimately destroy the Master Server on Eris.

Tau wakes up in the Terra Nova lab with no recollection of who he is or what he is doing there. It seems that he is a soldier developed by Terra Nova to assist in guerilla operations against Qoppa. He gradually learns the truth behind the men who created him, and the fate of his predecessor cyborgs, Omicron and Rho.

Files mixup

Back when this thing was first uploaded, RMN didn't support >20mb downloaded files, so I ended up storing Terra Nova on my own storage space. I just realized that last month, that storage went belly-up. Now I'm removing the old files and replacing them with the normal RMN-hosted downloads. Now as soon as the download is approved, you shouldn't get 404 errors trying to download the game.

In other words, not much work is getting done on A Human's Mind right now. I have my hands tied up with Trick Treat or Die and Blockbound, and I'll be writing for Snowbound in November. Maybe once Blockbound has a demo out and Snowbound is complete I'll come back to the project. I really wish this thing weren't made in RM2K...

I couldn't get the game to work. The installation program seems to have a problem. Would it be possible to have a release through .zip or .rar file?
I just submitted a .zip file download. If it's not up yet, should be at:
http://users.wpi.edu/~aking/tn.zip
Thought the installer was working though. Oh well.
How long is this supposed to be? At least 15 hours?
Ha, I'm not that sure actually. It's definitely not that long. I'd say it would take six hours at most.
Terra Nova means New Earth, let's hope it's not as bad as mine. (Downloads)

Uhhhhh, weird interface, I had trouble starting it. I'd say if there's anything to improve that would be keeping the Okay selector the default. Also, you mixed the jump thing up with something else, V, not B did a jump (though that's more a blog issue than a game one). Some good control features, including 8 directional movement. Okay, now for the main game:

The battle sequence is awkward. Because I usually you Ctrl with my left hand, I get a sort of "three-handed" feeling when playing the battle segments. Even the right handed Ctrl feels disjointed from the other keys. Couldn't you make the last button be N? I couldn't use jump to actually reach the ledges to fight strategically, so I didn't get its purpose.

As for plot, I couldn't make it very far, but it's not looking good. Even if the plot becomes awesome, the functionality issues kinda ruin things (I couldn't load a saved game due to your custom key settings). And at one point, I was in battle, and they said something about a missing map event when I went too far south, resetting my game. Even the uninstaller didn't do its thing the first time.
Battle system and interface turned into a mess. I'm working on a much more user-friendly version that should be done, uh, sometime. More of a separate game, but it's the same concept. The control scheme with N is already in place. What do you mean the "Okay" selector? Oh, you mean making Enter also function as confirm? (...Why didn't I think of that?)

I hate being in that awkward state where it's too early to release a new game and too late to try and fix the older game's bugs...

haha, been there. Will try this out.

*uhhh, maybe not. It freezes on me at the title screen. As it's loading I see some glitchy colors just before it zooms in, then I get the title screen but can't press anything. Had to altctrldel and open task manager to close it. I'm on windows vista.

Ughh... I'm also running Vista and I went to test the files that I put up, and I get essentially the same thing, except that after ten seconds or so of waiting at the title screen the little arrow shows up and I can select stuff. So no matter how long you wait that doesn't happen?

If you want, I can send you over a version of the remake/sequel/bugfix/notshittything that's functional.
Yeah, I waited a bit but nothing happend. I'll just wait until you release the next version. I should recognize it when it comes out.
Terra Nova. Heh.

You should sue Spielberg.
Last time I played this, it had horrible lag. But that was a few years ago. Does it still have lag or has that been fixed?

The lag is mostly still there. I started redoing the systems for this game about two years ago and never finished, and now I don't really see the point of finishing. I've considered taking this game down as it's just as likely to break as play properly, but as it was a contest submission, I think I'll keep it for posterity.
