Greetings fellow rpg lovers. So I'm sure you're asking yourself by now, "What's taking so long?! That lazy bum Wheelman is taking forever to post the Ultimate Edition! I should form a lynch mob and string him up by his toes!" Well since I do rather enjoy my toes, I figure it's about time for an update.
I have already corrected the various spelling errors and glitches that have been brought to my attention. The game is now at least 70% "thier" free. I've also added added several scenarios to add further detail to the story and a put the spotlight on some of the lesser developed characters. There has also been some major re-balancing done to the game's stats and I've tweaked a few movesets. Players who have beaten the game will find themselves having to use alternate strategies than those employed in their first playthrough. Not only that, but I've added a snazzy new status menu.
Now 30% more malevolent.
"Oh come on Wheelman," you exclaim, "You can't honestly tell me it's been taking you THIS long just to do that." That's very perceptive of you, reader. What has been really eating up time is the special surprise I've been working on. I was going to keep it a secret until the release, but now I think it would be better if everyone was in the loop.
I have been working on an alternate campaign called "Umbral Soul Reverse" where you experience the story from the perspective of the Serene's party. How did they meet? What were they doing while Pandora was amassing her forces? What dangers did they have to overcome in their quest for world peace? Now you'll learn the answers to those questions. It is for all intents and purposes, an additional game.
At the same time, I'm working with BerryRMN on our post BaconJam project, which is coming along quite nicely. It will feature quite a bit of amazing art Berry has whipped up himself. For an example of his art style, check out the demo of his game, Concordant. https://rpgmaker.net/games/8374/
So yeah, there's a lot of good stuff coming in the future, so you can look forward to it. As always, thanks for your patience and stay cool people!

I got patience too and it's gunna be so worth it. xD
It'll be awesome to play the finished version, and definitely wanting to try the sequel as well. Even the McBacon Jam.
I'm pretty much a subscriber to any of your games in general now after this one. xD

Must...meet...ridiculously high expectations. No sleep tonight! Nah, I'm going to do everything carefully without working myself into the ground. Thanks for the support guys, you're awesome as always.

On the note https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxJrjV4PNXA Ragnarok kind of came over like this.... "villain" in this song.... it would be nice to get some info on him to.
(With the tiny difference that he is the literal devil in this world....^^)
Apart from this.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQLEjBUU9kI this describes the "good" ones well. They just can't see that "dark" mages are also people... de-humatizing and killing them '_'
Anyways enough random voltaire stuff.... will they be playable or is it like a "dream"-scenario? I am kind of interested to see the "advesaries" journey and don't die on not sleeping.... we still need food.
"Don't feed the trolls?" Pah! We just want food and than we are quiet.
(Also a summon of the female priest would be hilarious)
Thanks for the update the silence made the trolls even hungrier.... and trolls can take a bite out of everything kukuku
I don't know if this counts as a spoiler, but I'm tabbing it up anyway!
Serene's party will be playable, and the events that occur will be cannon to the story. Of course that means new moves, new animations, and new strategies, so there will be a lot of additional content to enjoy.
This update was brought on by an obnoxiously random tumbleweed. It just blew through the comment section, mocking me with its blatant tumbleweediness, so I decided to break the silence.
Ragnarok's motives are expanded upon, but not until much further in the story during the events of Luminous Soul, but he does gloss over them during his speech before his battle with the heroes. He tells them that through his eyes, light is an abnormality that needs to be removed from the world, and that the world's true and natural state is to be covered in darkness. Everything he does is for the sake of what he believes to be restoring the natural order.
And yeah, most people; heroes and commonfolk alike, view dark mages and demons as evil monsters, so they don't mind slaughtering them in mass.

Which kinda reminds me wait a sec. You got Umbral Soul Ultimate which is this game in it's finished form, right?
Is the sequel called Umbral Soul Reverse or Luminous Soul or are they two different things?

Must... Resist... Urge... to.. Flash Meme...
Oh i'm not Pandora at all... Some would say, I ' M T H E R E V E R S E
Ugh Sorry wheelman, I couldn't resist... Anyhoo, looks amazing! Question though, Do we have to get to a certain point in the main game to access reverse? Or is it available from the beginning?
Looking forward to it either way, even if it does mean I have to replay the main game in my downtime, in fact, that sounds fun!Though with the personal stuff that's come up for me This might be out before i'm back to recording

lianderson- Tumbleweeds are the trolls of the plant world. Regular weeds are annoying, but tumbleweeds form a subclass of weed that is in its own exclusive tier of obnoxiousness. Kind of like Meta Knight in Smash Bros.
Knightowl- Ha! With all these fancy titles I'm flinging around, it's easy to get them mixed up. The "Reverse" campaign is a part of the Ultimate edition of Umbral Soul. I didn't want to release it as a separate game since it uses many of the same locations as the normal campaign. Luminous Soul is the title of the sequel, which takes place after the events of Umbral Soul and the Reverse campaign.
Dag-nabit TangledLion, at least 40% of your memes go right over my head. You forced me to look up "You can't lock up the darkness" and now I have to start watching Flash. Thanks alot...
You'll get a story selection screen as soon as you start a new game that'll let you choose your campaign, so you don't have to replay the game at all to access the bulk of the new content. It's great to hear from you, but don't worry about the vids, real life comes first. Welp, back to work!

Oh my god that made my morning ^^
"Now 30% more malevolent."So is Pandora more damage dealer now that took away her healing?Because she was not much a damager before unless the dark debuff conected and i've the bad luck to hardly it conects in boss battles. I don't plan to play it right away but i'm downloading this new edition anyway.
Nah, Pandora's damage output will still be limited compared to other characters. She was always designed to play more of a supportive role, buffing allies and summoning monsters. While her party healing spell will be removed, I plan on greatly buffing the amount of HP Shadow Shell recovers. She'll still be able to heal, but you'll need to be much more careful about when to use that healing. I'll make another announcement once the Ultimate Edition is available.
The reverse campaign will be awesome, Serene was one of my favorite characters in the base game and I liked the guy living alone in the woods even though he honestly didn't do anything.
Wow! A reversed role! I always loved that in RPG games, being able to play in different perspective!! These are looking good WheelmanZero!! Great job with it's progress! :)
Not to be rude but I am curious if the sequel is still being made or if it was discontinued? and if it is still being worked on how far would you estimate you are into it, like if you are close to finishing or really far from being done, it would be really cool to know cause I've been hyped since I first played it
Rude? Pfft, not even close. That's a fair question and I'd be happy to answer it.
*ahem*
You can rest assured that the sequel is still being made. For the time being I've been focusing on upgrading this game while adding additional content. I've been creating some scenes for the sequel, but once Umbral Soul's ultimate edition is finished, I'll be free to dedicate a lot more time to it. The skeleton is already there though; I've accumulated the necessary tilesets, battlers, animations and music while already having planned out every detail of the story. All that's left to do is put it together, which sounds simple, but eats up time like nobody's business. I'm not sure how I'd translate that into a completion percentage though.
For what its worth though, Luminous Soul is going to be a million times easier to event than Umbral Soul because I don't have to deal with shuffling around 20 different party members with 7 custom attacks each. That alone is enough to make its development go a lot faster than Umbral's.
