Will you find Chibae... or Chibae will find you?

Finding Chibae was made in 2016 by chibievil (or Chibae) in only a week, since it was done for a contest, the IIAW competition on RMC, with the RPG Maker VX Ace engine
This game, that was later converted to Rpgmaker MV, is a quite short fantasy adventure, in fact it took me about an hour to complete (but no less!) and i short it's about visiting a single multi-level dungeon.

The plot is more horror than fantasy: in the village there was a demon, so the townspeople locked the evil being in a cavern under the village. Centuries pass and three children, Rayner, Sadie and Jeffry, decide to explore the cave.
Clearly they know they should NOT enter the place, but yeah, old legends often exaggerate the real facts, don't they?

Yeah, let's hope that. By the way, wasn't hunting slimes better than looking for a powerful demon? Well there are lots of activities better than that!

Anyway we have these three little heroes, Rayner the warrior, Sadie the mage and Jeffry the lancer, that will be our party members (child versions of the main RPG maker VX characters) from the whole adventure.
Oh and what about Chibae? She's the demonic being that was locked there centuries ago, of course! I think that was clear, anyway the abandoned caves sometimes may be inhabited also by many dangerous critters...

So the game is pretty simple: three kids start a joyous trip into a forbidden cave, but luckily they are young adventurers, otherwise this would turn into a horror scenario. No, it's a fantasy game and very classic.
The three have training weapons and effective abilities to face the monsters of the dark cave, anyway don't expect the game to be a picnic! Enemies are all visible, bosses are mandatory and can be challenging (some particular weapons are needed to progress), but combat is fun (ROOOOOOOOD!) and it's totally possible to win. And you know what? It feels really rewarding!

ICE!!! Take that, ugly little fairy! Sadie may be a child, but she knows elemental magic!

Combat is classic front view perspective with no battlers, anyway it's still simple and fun, despite not being the main focus of the adventure.
Oh yes, because there is also exploration (some hidden paths will provide extra loot as a reward!) and puzzles, that aren't too difficult but makes this game a pleasant and varied short journey.

Graphically the game uses mostly Rtps, but frankly it's pretty normal considered the short time in which it was developed. Mapping is extremely good, the caves are dark and creepy, and created a real gloomy atmosphere, and the music and sounds that are Rtps too for the most part, are effectively used at the right moments, so it's ok!
What is custom I think are the sprites of the protagonist, and I must say that they are adorable and very well done! The monster sprites also fits the locations and all is coherent, so nothing to complaint here.

Well, who would ever like a giant jellyfish? Maybe someone... but I am not that person for sure!

Final Verdict
Finding Chibae is a little great adventure for little great heroes. Being a one hour game I guess there isn't a lot to say about it (otherwise I'd spoil many details for example about Chibae's story), except that it begs for a sequel. I mean, play the game and see!
I loved the humor and the dialogues, that really transform an apparently cliche' story into an enjoyable lighthearted adventure, well characterizing the protagonist despite the shortness of the game. It's also very cute and fun, but still provides a challenge for experienced players, without being unfair or frustrating.
A fantastic game, it was made in a week for a contest, it's really solid and I cannot find anything to complain so... 4.5/5!
