A potentially epic plot, but it's buried deep under the snow.
Prince Rain of the Kingdom of Glacia is suddenly awoken in the dead of night by his trusted guard captain, who warns him of a coup against his kingdom. The villain behind this plot is none other than Rain’s wife, Princess Lailah, who has murdered the king and convinced the kingdom that Rain was also dead and begins a war of conquest against Glacia’s neighbors, seeking world domination. It is up to Rain to find proof of his heritage as the true King of Glacia, stop his wife, and save the world from war.
Good Lord, this sounds epic. I honestly couldn’t wait to try this out when I saw it. But once I played it, the results were….mixed…. But I must press on.
Balance: N/A
For one thing, it was impossible for me to accurately assess balance because my hero started at level 99 and nothing could touch him. But I like the basic idea of choosing which skills to “equip”.
Level Design : N/A
The levels consist mostly of large, empty areas devoid of encounters or treasures of any kind. These areas need content, though I believe this has already been addressed in development. I will say that these levels are quite pretty, with lots of flowers and butterflies flitting about to add some atmosphere, and you can examine a great many of the random objects scattered around the towns, which makes exploring the many towns in the game fairly enjoyable, even if their design is simplistic.
Characters: 2.5/5
The dialogue is very weak and riddled with spelling and grammatical errors, and needs a great deal of revision. However, the simplistic dialogue is charming in its own way. I really liked Prince Rain, his unrelenting optimism and cheerfulness in the face of all his problems is actually quite refreshing.
Storyline: 2.5/5
There is actually an extremely compelling storyline going on here, but it is dragged down by the weak dialogue. On the plus side the pacing is breakneck, you are constantly on the move to the next plot point and the game doesn’t spend much time dwelling on its problematic areas. I’d really like to see this area improve, because I feel there is a really great story to be told here.
Music and Sound: 2/5
Mostly RTP and various Final Fantasy rips here, nothing particularly special. However, the sound Prince Rain makes when he casts spells is hilarious.
Overall:
This is a very promising project being dragged down by some very simple mechanical and grammatical problems. I hope to see great improvement in this project in the future.
Edit: Changed my rating since it was counting as a 0.
