I hate schools... and ghost schools are even worse!

Hello students!
And welcome to this... Ghost School! This is another game translated from japanese by the MemoriesOfFear team, that once again did an excellent job translating a japanese game into english! Ghost School (ゴーストスクール), is a horror RPG Maker VX adventure by Kurousagi (Black Hare) of Usakakesoft, released on June 19th, 2012... the translation was instead completed in 2016.

The plot is EXTREMELY simple: Senna Akizuki, our protagonist wakes up inside an abandoned school with no memories about how she arrived here. This place is haunted, but atnleast she's not the only person trapped here. We have to find the exit but the place is constantly changing and guess what? There are ghosts! Are all of them evil? What's going on? In any case I think that since this is an horror game I thing I don't have to specify that there is blood, violence, gore and themes like suicide and death.

Yeah. I see. There is also a skeleton in this locker room. Very perplexing!

As you can see, there it's all straight to the point: you're inside a hauted school the ghost school, so explore and try to survive! As in other horror games I played before there is more than one ending... well there are two! One bad and the true ending. The game took me about 3 hours or little more to complete.

The gameplay is probably exactly what you can expect from this kind of horror adventures: exploration, dialogues, chase sections and the occasional puzzle, even if these are pretty simple and just consist in finding the right item for overcoming an obstacle (such as finding a wooden board to use like a bridge... nothing complex at all!). That's all. Oh yes, and there are jumpscares and ghosts to avoid of course! Now, the jumpscares become quite predictable after a while, but luckily the chase sections are pretty easy, anyway do not remember to save often, because there are some glitches (the library part, you've been warned, save often there!) that may make lead to the game crashing.

Time for a good old classic chase section... and no this is not the only one!

Visually the game is... not too good! Maps are extremely large and feel empty, maybe it's because of the otherwordly nature of the place, still it's cery bland, rooms look similar and it's rather tedious crossing large spaces. At least these make chase sections a tad easier, anyway pay attention to the breaking floors, that are pretty annoying! Oh and there are mazes, so you are warned if you hate them.
Instead on the other hand I liked the title screen, the original facesets and portraits of the protagonists, unfortunately they're not as interesting as they look. They're fairly stereotypical, since we have the classic outgoing girl with lot of friends, the cute and extremely shy one, the weirdo, the pretty boy, and what about Senna? Well the protagonist is "miss average teen girl". That's all you need to know!

Music isn't really special, not that it is bad, but I did not like that there is an annoying pause when the background music loops! Meh. Sounds are a bit better even if I did not like very much the sound during the dialogues, still it can be silenced, luckily.

It's the end of the review, my friend! Get ready for the...

Final Verdict
Ghost School is a pretty average game, just like its title: a classic tale of ghosts and japanese students (investigate the school's gruesome past to escape), much like Corpse Party, still this is a game that may appeal the players who are fond of rpgmaker horror games. In any case be warned of the presence of gore, some glitches and lots of walking. In the end this is not a real classic horror, but still an ok game, if you can overlook its flaws. In any case this is another excellent translation by the MemoriesOfFear team!
